My 3 year old got hold of my iPhone4 while I was on the laptop and went into the sitting room (I was in the kitchen). He came back a few minutes later and to my horror the screen was broken. No visible cracks or damage on the outside of the phone but screen has gone dim and bubbles have appeared that move when I put pressure push hard on it. I'm assuming the inner LCD glass is broken and the liquid crystal has leaked??? Also touch screen unresponsive and inaccurate. Will upload video later but have to go out now!

The LCD is broken, very strange for the LCD to break, your 3 year old must have some throw. The digitizer/LCD are the one unit in the iphone4 so both need to be replaced either way
Your looking at €70-€160 depending who you go to for the repair

I need to make sure problem is due to accidental damage as I plan to claim it on insurance (first claim and have had policy since iPhone 3G). Google hasn't shed much light on it

He's a sturdy little lad alright!

Couldn't agree more but the missus seems to be very attached to him:) Just wait til he breaks her iPhone! Besides which he's kind of cute. I found this vid on my phone one day (he'd videoed himself while we were asleep!)

Anyway here's a pic of the phone:(

    Looks cool ;)
Most insurance on phones has a €60excess plus vat.
It may be easier to get fixed privately

So you think it's due to accidental damage? I figured going down the insurance route would mean that genuine Apple parts would be used (excess is €65)

That actually looks like water/liquid between the LCD/backlight.
I've replaced over 100 iphone4 screens and haven't seen anything like it before

It wasn't wet when he handed it back to me and liquid damage indicators are still white.

I'd try apple for warranty, my only concern would be if it was by any chance liquid damage it may be too late to fix by the time apple make their mind up, if you remove the back and the indicator is white send it back to apple would be my advice
Take a photo of a white page, open full screen and examine for cracks in the LCD

It's well out of warranty but insurance should cover it. Touchscreen has started working again.

I'm hoping to get iphone4s soon, can anyone recommend a good protective cover for it if you've got kids? I've 2 smallies who'd climb mountains to get their hands on stuff.

I'm probably not the best person to ask as my iPhone was uncased (was waiting for a new cheapo bumper to arrive). When my iPhone comes back from the insurance company might consider an otterbox case - ugly but tough!

Cheers digitaldr. Just checked and they have them on Amazon uk. I need an ipad one too. Expensive but I know I'll regret it if I don't get them.
