I've missed my last two payment days, one due to illness (high fever+chest infection) and the other for being out of the country for a job interview. I know what my days are for going to my post office, but I haven't been told my signing on arrangements.

My last signing on date was 22nd Nov, but I told them at the office I couldn't make that date because I'll be out of the country and I've given them a letter explaining why I haven't been able to sign on or collect payments (They didn't ask for proof of this such as flight pass or doctors cert). They never answer the phone and there's always que's of people in there, Is there any other way of finding out my signing day (is it every two weeks or something?)

This is for Job Seekers allowance

  • For me the hatch I sign on at is open for general inquiries on Friday evenings. Perhaps you could go in and look at the hatch window to see if there is a notice which states when it is open for non-signing on matters? That's how it works in my office anyway. Also if it helps I have to sign on every four weeks to the day exactly so with the Christmas break I'd say you're not due back until January 17.

However I strongly suggest you go to your hatch on one of those days it's open for enquiries and tell them you missed it last week. Otherwise you may not get paid over Christmas
