It seems that the latest version of RISK allows only up to 5 players, not 6. I think there are some rule changes as well.

Has anyone played it? How does it compare to the classic RISK: e.g. versions with the soldiers, cavalry and artillery pieces.

Here is a link which might help you evaluate it.

I have the new version of risk (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hasbro-28720-Risk-Board-Game/dp/B004NODJ3Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326032763&sr=8-1) Has some issues. Only 5 players. No mission cards. The green, grey and blue armis are difficult to tell apart on the board. I added the mission cards and painted some soldiers.

Best to get a previous version if you can.

There is a very odd edition just released though it suffers the 5 player max rule too. It forces you to customize the board, rip up components and write permanent stuff on the board!
Called Risk Legacy. Colour me curious.
