ssh-agent losing keys on restart

Does anyone know if the ssh-agent is designed to flush its identities on restart? I have been using ssh-agent sucessfully for a while but only just had to restart the server. I noticed the agent lost all its idenitify files. When I manually add them again (passphrases etc) I can connect again to my sites but killing and…

When I manually add them again (passphrases etc) I can connect again to my sites but killing and restarting the agent again will remove all the idents? Is this normal?
It is a real pain!

Didn't think restart would wipe the keys.
Thought a reinstall was the only way to wipe them
