How are ya folks? I tried emailing skysports the other day with this complaint but it came back as message sending failure, so I just left it, but is it just me or does Cecil Martin annoy anyone else on NFL on skysports? I could do his job, and just because he played the game, they have him on the show.....Also Kevin Cadle doesnt even know a lot of the players names! Just annoys me sometimes ya know?

    No. No and no.

I actually find him entertaining and a good break from the usual football analysis which gets a bit repetitive after a while.

whos the other fella on the show btw?
looks like a gardener, or an IT gimp

the panel needs a shake-up, i've been saying it for years
would be great if they could get johnno back on the show
or maybe dermot from the xfactor
both have worked with sky in the past and have the charisma / expertise necessary to turn the show on its head
was complete cringe watching cecil carve the bird there a few evenings ago. what the hell were they doing stuffing their faces on live tv for anyways
amateurish - i know they were on live for a 10/11 hr shift but surely coulda just grabbed some burgers during the break
kevin cadle is good on nba, suspect on nfl

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 213 ✭✭bobbaggio

Right fair enough, maybe I'm being a bit harsh but he is a pure chancer I think, Cadle is definately a chancer!! Yeah your man looks like a pure gerry daly gardener, but he knows his stuff, and I think he gets a bit annoyed with cecil, but he is entertaining I suppose, just thought I'd start a conversation! The lad on Channel 4 is quite good, the american lad, he made a mistake last night and he was RAGIN' , he mentioned it about 5 times after that saying, that is the kind of mistake you should NOT be making!

Kevin Cadle just slows down when he can't think of someone's name, Like Maurice Jones Drew....he goes JOOOOOONES DREEEEEW!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 4,145 Mod ✭✭✭✭bruschi

Cecil is a legend. and when he calms down and actually does an analysis I think he is quite good. need a bit of hype and excitement, some of the games sky have shown were muck so need someone to liven things up

why do they pick crap games?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 213 ✭✭bobbaggio

think they have them picked before the season starts? I dunno, but also to keep everyone entertained like, and to mix it up, I agree that you need Cecil on it because there are a lot of fans that are only getting into the sport here and enjoy this as opposed to insider jargon!

They should just show the bears every week ;)

First of all Danny Kelly is rubbish and having him as a presenter is the biggest joke of all. Seconds of all Gary Imlach is the worlds WORST pundit, people **** on that he knows his stuff but the fact he doesn't i swear half the time he doesn't even know where he is. He just repeats EVERYTHING Collinsworth says with more player and team name mistakes then any one iv ever seen.

Mean come on a few weeks ago he completely forgot the names of the two teams that were playing!!

Anytime im watched SNF I always fast forward through their ramblings.

Sky is fine once Tucker isn't on. My god he annoys me. Cecil is great craic he's what Sky are all about some fun! Neil Reynolds is very good and people don't give him enough credit, think it just seems odd that a British journalist knows all his stuff.

reynolds is just a british journalist??
    ah ffs
i assumed he was a former nfl coach or something

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 213 ✭✭bobbaggio

ah see i dont watch their ****e either but the couple of times I watched it he wasn't, yeah that english presenter on channel 4 is cat! he actually makes me sad!

Maybe I'm in the minority but none of them really bother me at all.
I certainly don't get angry or enraged about a presenter of a Sports show.

FWIW I only watch a full broadcast of Sky's coverage if it's the Jets or the only game on. Otherwise Gamepass and Redzone all the way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,879 ✭✭✭D3PO

if you think there bad you clearly dont want sunday night football on Channel 4.

Jokers. Carlson is the msot cringe worthy unknowledgable american football presenter in the world ever.

Every week without fail they screw up and show their lack of knowledge.

the sky sports guys arent actually that bad. As for Cadle his background is in basketball. hes hardly going to talk himself out of a job though is he

I like Sky's coverage to be honest.

why does being a british journalist make any difference ? maybe you should tell the Pittsburg Press, Breen Bay Gazzette or the Atlanta Journal or any of the other american newspapers he has written about american football in that he knows nothing because hes a british jounralist.

hes been writing about the NFL longer than most forum members have been watching it Id guess. Also the fact hes employed by the NFL to write for the NFLUK means nothing they hire any rag tag journo dont you know.

these guys are presenting to an audience that believe it or not have on average a much lower understanding of the game than the general forum member here.

Id say 75% of the sky sports NFL audience coudlnt tell you what a pull or a trap is. Wouldnt know what you meant if you referred to a reciever going on a 9 route, wouldnt know what a qb audible is etc.

you have to engage to your audience. thats what they do.

I really cannot stand Cadel, he is terrible as a host.

Since they put the Red Zone on the Red button there is no longer any need to watch the full games they broadcast, thankfully.

Reynolds is a very knowledgeable guy when it comes to American Football. He played the sport as a kicker in the BAFL and nearly played in the NFL Europe for the Monarchs. Dude knows his sh1t and is ten times better than Halling and Cadle. Good interview with him here:

    http://www.footballdiner.com/neilreynolds1.html

Also his profile from NFL Uk
    Summary:

Neil Reynolds has covered the NFL as a journalist and broadcaster since 1991. He is currently serving as an analyst on Sky Sports' NFL show having spent the previous two seasons co-presenting BBC Radio 5 Live’s NFL coverage. Reynolds has worked for British football publications First Down and Gridiron and has also written for American publications such as the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Pittsburgh Post-Press Gazette. He currently writes for nfluk.com, SkySports.com and Sky.com and has interviewed some of the biggest names in American football, including Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Dan Marino and John Elway.

It's harder for me to watch the MNF game with its constant breaks, you get used to having the British analysis in most of the game-breaks. Carlson is great and Cecil is just a plain nice guy. He does tend to end up in generalities when he's excited, though, but if he's channeled correctly he can break down plays pretty well for a general audience.

I'd only flick over to Red-Zone if the live game gets out of hand or I heard something amazing is happening elsewhere. It'll be a great boon going into the last few weeks of the regular season, though.

Yeah it should be good! As a bears fan, I don't wanna see the Packers going all the way unbeaten which is possible! But yeah, some great stories coming in! Leinart gone, what are the texans gonna do? The tebow train! Etc, also I meant to mention.......What is the story with Tony Palko's throw? I thought Philip Rivers looked awkward, Palko makes Rivers look like the perfect QB

Nick Halling who was their main face of NFL for years is now gone. Although it was him who left as opposed to them deliberately changing things around, the panel has been shaken up this year.

I like Neil and Cecil to be honest. Neil is very good and so what that he's 'only a British journalist' and Cecil has a lot of energy and is god to listen to. They have had a couple of duds on some weeks but I enjoy Sky's coverage for the most part.

I love the fact that the Red Zone is wall-to-wall football, no adverts, no inane jabbering, and when there are any breaks in play Scott Hanson is an excellent, concise anchor man.

As for Gary Imlach on Channel 4 he's been covering the NFL for an eternity so he should have gathered a fair knowledge of the game by now!

I dearly wish Channel 4 had offered Imalch more than honey-roasted peanuts to continuing hosting.

Off-topic... but I'd hate to hear a commentator/pundit refer to a '9 route'. That's just a number, and it can mean different things in each team's terminology. And many teams wouldn't even use a 1-9 numbering system at all, particularly in the NFL. Like, if a pundit said that, I'd lose some respect for him, as it'd look like he doesn't get that each team has it's own language with different meanings and nuances... unless he's giving an analogy, such as: "That's the old 9 route - the first route young receivers learn in Peewee football!"

my point wasnt on specific terminology it was on using football terminology. Forget the exact term i referenced the point is the pundit has to cater for the general audience which in the UK & Ireland wouldnt be one with a high level of football knowledge.

Sky are in a no win situation in this regard. While they can't dumb down their presentations, they have to keep it at a level where the casual fan isn't going to get bored with hearing about the Xs and Os

They should just hire Jeff Reinbold fulltime. He always gives the perfect mix of genuine analysis and viewer-friendly explanations.

Or get William Perry in more often. Did you catch his guest appearance a few years back? He was like that southern-drawling dude from The Waterboy. It was hilarious watching Halling and Cadle trying to keep the 'banter' going with him.

Jeff Reinbold is the WR coach for the SMU Mustangs so there's no way he can be anything other than a part-time guest, let alone the fact it's likely none of the guests have anything other than a running per-appearance relationship with Sky, there really isn't enough money there to tie someone down full-time.

Am I the only one who enjoyed Shaun Gayle when he was on then?

Got to say im a big fan of Reynolds, and for the most part Cecil doesnt bother me, he does actually know his stuff when it gets right down to it too
