    Hi,

Need a bit of advice, probably going to getting a new car (moving from 3 door Golf to a 5 door saloon (not estate just my own preference)).

Have a budget of about 20k for this, prefer to spend less but up to that.

Really like the BMW 530d or a 535 if possible, also like the look of the Jag XJ but at the moment those prices look like they are around the 25k mark.

Would I be better going across to the uk for it? And maybe been able to get the newer tax rate?

    Cheers

We'll there's also this one kicking around ... http://www.carzone.ie/search/BMW/5-Series/535D-M-S/201142205098153/advert?channel=CARS don't think you could go any newer with out breaking the 20k mark, I'm struggling with the, buy older pay more tax or pay more for the car, buy newer and pay less tax...the main problem with that of course is the cars seem to jump anywhere up to 10k between 07 and 08, and I'm sure as hell not going to have the car long enough to make up that kinda difference in tax, although I think I may cry if I have to turn over that much money to the banks every year :(.

You mean 4 door saloon. 5 door is a hatchback.
UK would have more selection alright, but the prices for pre-2008 ones here are almost as low. Tax is the same for a given year no matter where you buy it.
