The BIG presentation thread

I think it's important to get to know each other a little bit better. Especially since we're discussing complicated topics and emotions tend to run high from time to time ;)

It would be good if everyone who's active in the Christianity forum could post a little something about themselves. Perhaps even an off-topic sort of chat thread could come in handy too. We need to get friendlier if this is going to be a nice forum to post in :)

    The only rule is:
No religious debate in this thread, only presentations and greeting others!!
    (Let's keep it nice!)

    So anyway, here's me:

I'm Lady Chuckles. That is my name as I chuckle a lot and I tend to see the beautiful things around me.

I'm on the Christianity forum as I would love to have deep friendly discussions about Christianity. I also started off here as I was thinking about converting to Catholicism (I'm high church Lutheran), but for now I'm going to keep to protestantism and remain a catholic at heart.

I'm creative. I sing in the church choir, I write novels (awful thrillers, of course, totally out of character) and I love languages. People tell me I spread love and smiles where ever I go and I'd like to think that is true :o:D

Hello. I am Onesimus. I was St.Pauls Servant in the New Testament. My name in Greek means ''Handy, useful''. What a great name for a slave eh?. :D

I am Ukrainian Eastern Greek Catholic and my Patriarch is Sviatoslav Shevchuk. I spend my days encountering Catholics who think that the Eastern Catholics are not in communion with Rome and telling them....''no we really are in communion with Rome''. :D

I am MrPudding. This is somewhat ironic as I don’t really like pudding, except for apple crumble and custard.

I am an atheist and quite possibly an anti-theist, though I try, not always successfully, to moderate myself.

I was raised as a catholic and really enjoyed my time as an altar boy (completely unmolested I might add). I was born and raised in Norn Iron and experienced the full glory of the segregated education system, as well as the segregated sport, segregated politics, segregated shops etc.

I hang around here because I find it interesting, educational, funny and frustrating.

I'm a husband and father. I pastor a church, serve as bishop of a denomination, and lecture on theology in seminaries. I also do a bit of consultancy work, public speaking etc. I love writing, and have had a few short stories published and a couple of books.

In my spare time (!) I watch sports and play tenor sax. My wife and I love to travel, and we often tie that in with working on missionary projects in other parts of the world. We both feel very strongly about issues of social justice.

All in all, I consider myself to be very blessed (or lucky, depending on one's point of view). I spend most of my time doing stuff that I find interesting and love doing, and I even get paid for it. :)

I'm sorry. If it is any consolation I really like apple crumble and custard.

Oh, and I should have mentioned, and this might seem scary to some, but I have four kids and I am not married.

You've got it stuck in your head now, dont you? ;)

    Anyway. :o
I'm 23, not a catholic, not a protestant, or at least i wouldnt consider myself one. I've always been blessed by being surrounded by some really great faith filled people and am a member of a pentecostal church for as long as i can remember.
Went to countless (literally) scripture union camps and some events around europe during my teens too.

Good evening to you all. :)

    I'm wolfsbane. Husband, father, grandfather.

Member of my local Baptist church. I differ from most of them in being a 5-Point Calvinist and an Amillennialist. But we agree on the essentials and a lot more. I served 7 years full-time as a missionary from the church, after 3 years in the Irish Baptist College.

I'm 62 next week, and work nights driving lorries with Royal Mail.

As my name implies, I seek to defend the flock of Christ, and to bring in the wandering sheep.

I read a lot: theology and history mostly - but love L. M. Montgomery's works and Edgar Wallace's 'River' series.

Code Name: Soul Winner. Real name:
Wouldn't you like to know? :)
41 years young. Father of 3. Been a Christian since 1991. An avid student of the late Dr Gene Scott's Teaching Ministry and an adherent to his A,B Cs of Faith Teaching. Action, based upon Belief, sustained by Confidence. I'm non denominational, but if you want to compartmentalize me then call me a Paulinest as it was Paul and his Teaching that saved the Gospel that Jesus died to bring to the world. I don't believe being denominational will somehow get you anywhere with God but I don't believe He'll hold it against you either as long as you have faith in His Promises. I love reading about the Resurrection, Church History, Philosophy and Science. I especially enjoy the Evolution vrs ID debate. I love listening to debates on the existence of God and listening to and watching lectures about Christianity and its relevance to today. My favorite Christian thinkers/Preachers include, St Paul, Augustine, Anselm, Luther, G Campbell Morgan, CS Lewis, Donald Barnhouse, Alvin Plantinga, William Lane Craig, John Lennox and Norman Geisler to name but a small few.

Outside of my Christian interests I love music, cinema, watching interesting documentaries on the box and I love spending quality time with my three young'ns and girlfriend. I work in IT and as such have a sort of love/hate relationship with Technology. That's not quite me in a nutshell but you get the general jist.

I can't believe that Wolfsbane is 62 and a granddad. Well done mate. I tip my hat you sir. :D

Great thread idea, thanks Lady Chuckles.
I'm a Christian of sorts, bit of magic and some hand wavie stuff thrown in.
In other words finding my way.
Older than I feel, and not as good looking as I think :)
I enjoy thinking about stuff and sometimes take an opposite view to see how it fits, if you see what I mean.
Will always question assertions and will never be persuaded by authority.

Hi lady Chuckles (your username is far better than mine - chosen in a hurry!!) Great idea..

I'm female, wife for seven years, mother of two little boys - five and two. I'm Catholic, would have considered myself agnostic for a long time, but finally came home about 10 years ago. I've travelled a great deal with my other half pre-kiddies, and been involved with various youth groups, charities and community work. I've had to scale back a little, due to work committments and the mayhem of juggling everything - never enough hours in the day. In saying that, I love running and cycling, and am a bit of a book worm - my hubby teaches martial arts in the community, but I wasn't so good at that, in fact I sucked at it!

I taught Math for about five years in secondary while studying engineering and am presently employed in the sagging building industry of all things....but a jobs a job. I'm also looking forward to Christmas break; actually I'm living for it at the moment..lol...

Happy Birthday for next week Wolfe. Didn't know you were a Grandad too....cool :)

Catholic. I'm Irish, but I've been living in Australia for the last eight years or so, hence some odd posting hours. Married with an eleven-year old daughter.

For quite a while I was a fairly, um, semi-detached Catholic. Now I'd describe my relationship with the church as, well, critical.

I didn't think this thread was going to go anywhere, particularly because I like the anonymity of a user name, but here goes (a little)..

I'm in my late forties, I'm married with 3 children, the oldest has just started in 3rd level. I grew up in the Church of Ireland, attended an Independent Evangelical Church for many years where I met my wife and am currently worshipping in a Presbyterian Church where I have been for the last 16 years. I became a Christian at the age of 11 through attending a BEC camp (Boys Evangelical Camps - now defunct). I continue to volunteer at Scripture Union camps and am involved in other voluntary capacities as well. My opinions expressed are always my own (spiritually inspired!) and not necessarily representative of any organisation

I guess i'm one of those lost sheep that shepherds like to go looking for. Finally reading for myself the words that people on both sides like to scream over.
Old enough to remember the bad old days. Young enough to hope.
sorry if this seems vague but thats as far as i gotten in my faith and as for my personal life, it couldn't be more average. but at least i can afford my heating bills.
my thanks to the ones who speak kind words here. you know who you are.

I love science and maths, hence my name. I had been a very casual Catholic throughout my lively teens, twenties, and early thirties and was thinking about leaving the Catholic Church for good about 3 years ago, partly because of the Church Scandals, partly because I felt most of the practices were probably mumbo jumbo added on over the centuries, but I decided before I did I would study the doctrine to find reasons/excuses/justification to dump it, and to my great surprise, instead discovered that the more I tried, the more I found the doctrine to be sound, and very consistant with the beliefs of the very earliest Christians.

I came here looking to discuss the common ground between other Christians, and instead found lots of misrepresentation and myths about Catholics and Catholicism peddled as fact, post after post. I am still genuinely shocked how intolerant and ignorant Ireland seems to have become. So now I stay and annoy any anti-Catholics by presenting the actual facts of what Catholics believe, but I will always respect the beliefs of those who in turn respect mine. I tend to call a spade a spade, not beat about the bush, or try to sugar coat my posts. Apologies if this style offends anyone, it's not meant to. Perhaps someday, when the trolls are fed up, we will all get to move onto other discussions about our common ground.

Now I love flowers and puppies, and I think religion is softening my hard heart.

God bless. I love you all. God really is love. Quad.

I chose not to mention my personal life or family. It has been used to make personal attacks on me in the past which is avoiding the issues.
If you want to find out more about me read what I type but I post here not about me but about more objective things.
I have a very diverse set of life experiences qualifications and backgrounds but it isnt about ME it is about what people claim.
I stand by what I state and support it or withdraw it.
That said i rarely make claims. rather I ask those making claim where there evidence is.

I am a skeptic in the scientific sense and have debated with religious fundamentlsists , holocaust denyiers, nazis, astrologers, fakers, and the like for decades.
I am anti authoritarian but accept the concept of natural law.

I was drawn to boards because of an "cosy" element of in my opinion modernist/atheistic/manufactured consent people who post to politics, A&A and Christianity. I challenge their assumptions and their supposition of a superior stance. Much of the time it is a proud selfish political or intellectual bias. It is similar in terms of the mindset above I have encountered in the past..
While I "rub people up the wrong way" if offered the easy path or the crown of thorns I am more likely not to chose the former if my conscience says I should speak out.
Don't let my spelling mistakes or rambling posts lull you into a sense that I am not analytical or meticulous in analysing anyone's philopsophical position and the problems I see with it. I suffer from a neuroligical disorder that both manifests in my cumbersome style but also enables rapid cogient analysis and comparison with very diverse subjects which lead to what some might regard as "off the wall" comparison. S Maybe I should not "think out loud" :)
Some have stated my brain is wired in a different way. They are probably right but I am above all honest and not malicious. I admit mistakes although they don't happen very often. Please don't take my attacking your philosophy as attacking you personally.
    Peace be with you.

I am married with family. I do office work, and worked mainly in accounts.

    I had been a lurker here for a few months prior to posting. I am baptised and raised Catholic. When I was younger, I concentrated mostly on having fun, and pushed God to one side. During times of crisis in my life I started turning to God for help and guidance. I came across a book about the lives of the Saints and I wanted to read more about these wonderful Servants of God - their testimonies on the love that God has for all of us helped put me back on track, and gave me a thirst to find out more about my Catholic Faith, which I am still learning. One of my favourite gagdets is my Kindle, on which I have 3 different Bibles, Douey Rheims, New American, and New International bibles. :}

While I am appalled, upset and ashamed about the horrible abuses that were perpetrated by those who are Christ's representives, they in no way diminish my faith in the Teachings of the Church. After all, I too am a sinner in the sight of God and have offend him deeply, I just have different sins. I believe that God is doing a bit of house-cleaning, and getting rid of the filth out of the Church, as Ratzinger aptly put it!

It's wonderful to see that so many people have participated in this presentation thread :)

I personally think it has helped the Christianity forum spirit a little. It feels like we know each other a bit better - and I can say (at least for myself) that I understand people's opinions and views better after reading the presentations. I may not agree all of the time (it would be a boring forum if everyone always agreed), but I understand and I appreciate it more than I might have before :)

I hope you feel the same.

Only saw this thread now. Thought I'd add to it, I'm 27, married two years exactly, work in office work, but often times outside of usual office hours hence posting during the day more often than not. I was baptised, confirmed etc into the Roman Catholic Church but my parents and family were not religious (mass once or twice a year Christmas and Easter for example). I think my parents are of a generation who were effectively 'cured' of religion by the actions of the nuns and brothers. I lived it up when I was young, as much as I could. Nothing really made me happy long term though. Met a girl, as you do when I was 21, fell for her, fell for her faith. Got into discussing the important things in life with her. Brought me back to God. Now I would say I am non-denominational Christian but still learning.
