Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 - How can I remove the O2 operator logos?

Hi all. I recently bought the Samsung S5830. Great phone, I would recommend it. However, I am originally a Meteor customer but I found the best deal with O2 so I got it from O2. I've unlocked the phone now so it works with my Meteor SIM but something I'd like to take away is the O2 operator logo. After some brief searching on Google, I noticed people mentioning rooting the phone to allow the removal of the logo but I'm a little apprehensive about this as it involves phone hacking. I'm willing to root the phone, as long as I can go back to the original state before rooting it but preferably, I'd like to avoid it. So is there any way of removing the operator logo without rooting? Or if I have to root it, is there any good guides out there for rooting and that I could bring my phone back to its original state? Thanks.

To cut it short, no. You need to root to get rid of them. If you go on to XDA Developers and find the correct forum for your device, do a little searching and you'll easily find an easy guide. If it is as easy as rooting a Galaxy S II then you shouldn't be worried at all.

What do you mean by "original state"? AFAIK you need to root the phone, then put a custom ROM on it to remove the logos. You can probably access the system files and do it too, but I'm not sure. If you're worried about losing apps/pictures/SMS etc. there are apps in the Market that will back all that up for you. Not to mention clockwork recovery (which is used to flash the custom ROM) which you can use to create a backup of the state you have your phone in before you flash a custom ROM. :)
