hi ive recently had an open fire back boiler installed and all is working fine

i was chatting to a lad in work and he was saying that you should place the thermostat nearer to the boiler as mine is placed beside the cylinder
which is 6 metres down the hall in the hot press or 9 metres if ya follow the pipes
he was saying that my system will take longer to cut in and out as its got more water to heat.... it makes sense to me but theres probably a good reason why the plumber has it beside the tank

if it is a pipestat that controls the pump then the closer to the back boiler the better
any chance of picture of stat or a better indication of where it is placed in the hotpress

That reason is to give priority to your hot water whereby your bolier will only send heat out to the radiators after your hot water has been heated. So your plumber is right.

The stat has to be in an accessible position, judging by your post the best position is at the cylinder. As said your Plumber was spot on but you can vary the temperature setting to suit your need but don`t set it too low.

probably is in the most accesable position but ive a free run of the attic as its a dormer and isnt converted ive it set at 50

    not sure what you mean
from what i see it kicks in at 50 but the water hasnt heated that much by the time the heating kicks in
the stat is on the water in side of the tank from what i see

Pics would be good, as the system is fully open then the entire system including the cylinder will all be at the same temperature.

Close but no cigar. For the system to work as I described the pipe stat should be on the lower outgoing pipe of the coil (return to boiler). This will let the cylinder heat up before the radiators:)

Our plumber put the pipe thermostat near the boiler. Pump kicks in once its reaches 60C.

    imho
i think the stat is better close to the boiler as it will switch the pump on as soon as the temperature heats up and disperse the water around your system without excessive heat build up
