Rescuers searching for six people missing in the Irish Sea have recovered a body.

A search operation was launched overnight after the hull of a cargo vessel cracked and began to sink 20 miles off the coast of north-west Wales.

Eight crew members on board the ship went into the water.

Two were rescued early this morning and this afternoon the Coastguard has confirmed that the body of a man has been recovered.

    Five others remain missing.

Coastguard helicopters from Dublin, Waterford and Sligo are assisting Holyhead Coastguard with the search operation.

It's understood the stormy conditions at sea are hampering their progress.

I thought it was a small boat at first, then I realised it was a cargo ship. Which is very odd I would have though, looks like it was over loaded for the sea conditions. Nasty situation.
The Waterford-based Irish Coastguard helicopter has recovered a body from the Irish Sea off Holyhead.
The Waterford and Dublin-based helicopters have been assisting in the search for survivors of the 'Swanland' cargo ship, which sank in the early hours of this morning.
Two crew members were taken from the water around two hours after the alarm was raised at 2am.
A search is continuing for five other crew members.
The 'Swanland', which had a Russian crew, went down approximately 80kms southeast of Dublin, off Wales' Bardsey Island.
The two crew members were found at around 4am and winched aboard a rescue helicopter before being taken to an RAF base in Anglesey.
The coastguard is still reporting very difficult conditions in the area, with high winds and rough seas.
A coastguard official said the 81-metre cargo carrier was carrying 3,000 tones of limestone and it appears its hull cracked.
Naval vessel, the L.E. Roisin, along with lifeboat crews from RNLI Phwllheli and Porthdinllaen, four search and rescue helicopters and two other commercial boats, are assisting in the search.

Sky News don't even mention how 3 Irish coast guard helicopters and an Irish Navy Vessel are/were also involved. :(

R-117 recovered the third person today. Some of the Irish media are more interested in the fact that HRH was the co pilot of R-122. On the flip side, others think he is a pilot with the IRCG....That's life;)

Funny you should mention the lack of a mention of IRCG assistance. I was checking the latest filed reports on Google News and if you check the below link, there is a pic of what looks to be Rescue 116 or 117, yet the EI number doesn't match and is it possible that all the IRCG references have been photoshopped? Maybe its an old file photo, cause theres no way they would have done what I thought they have done, is there?

No that was from yesterday. CZN is the spare Heli usually in SNN. Not marked as it only recently had the paint job and no since in spending a fortune marking it when its gone in a year or so.

Just curious about the call signs. R122 being the RAF one and 117, 118 etc the Irish ones. Is there a co-ordination of the heli call signs for rescue choppers that operate around the Irish and UK coast lines?

One of the IRCG birds developed trouble during the search and diverted to Valley, and the Waterford one took its place.
