what Firebird are you putting in?
    is it condensing?
if so you have no option, kero only

With diesel you have to have a high level flue, only discharge at low level with kero

sorry for delay.its a standard oil boiler, not condensing.its going out on the footpath so i presume the flue is ok that comes with it?

If its a module (Galvanised box) unit it will come with a low level discharge flue, as per DGOBS, it will require Kerosine. The burner will also come set to burn Kerosine.

    hello zxcvbnm12

STOP...PLEASE TAKE MY ADVISE "DO NOT INSTALL AN OIL BURNER"

i have a very modern Waterfordstanley burner and i am in the process of selling it so i can buy a solid fuel one.
I was born and reared in Ireland and presently living in central Europe and everyone is moving away from Oil. When you consider that kerosene was 60 cent a litre this time last year and not its around 90 whats next..
If you can at all buy a soild fuel cooker, at least a few hard wood logs, turf or some coal will only cost a fraction of what oil will cost,

I hope this is of some help

    Hi,

Kerosene burns a lot cleaner than diesel which is why it is recommended for modules (heat packs), even if you had an old type boiler with the proper flue to burn diesel you should be prepared to have it serviced more often than the same boiler burning kerosene as diesel fuel tends to soot up the boilers.

ok thanks pete but what im wondering is which fuel is better value <heating wise>

    Hi,

Based on your first two posts you don't have an option a heat pack has a low level flue so must use kerosene.

Forgive me if I don't go into the caloric value of different fuels I touch type with one finger and would be up all night.

Kerosene, burns hotter, burns cleaner, cheaper to buy, and all boilers come set for kerosene. And boilers using diesel/gas oil in outdoor modules or low level flues should not be done.
