Got one place, however at the garage was a different story.
Thinking going North. Have a friend, his mechanic will do it for £250.

At £250 plus a trip north you would be better off staying local and paying €350 IMO. PM Nissan Doctor he will sort you out.

I am willing to pay €350 but not €450.
So far €450 was the cheapest including the Nisan Doctor.

I hope you know there is no such thing as genuine Renault, Bmw etc parts, the timing belt kit for that car probably has a Dayco belt with skf or fag idler and tensioner pulleys and possibly a trw water pump all in Renault boxes..

What garage? In your OP, you said 450 was the quoted price. You have been told 350 to have it done by Nissan Doctor. Do it. You won't get it much cheaper than that.

From reading the OP's posts my understanding is that they have been in contact with Nissan Doctor's place of work and the price is actually €450 not €350.

Maybe Nissan Doctor can come back here to clarify?

€450 is a good price from a main dealer

€350 is a good price from an independent garage

I quoted the OP €350 for the job as is what I normally quote.

However I've been off for 2 weeks and haven't been in much contact with work(trying to take a proper break from cars for a short while at least) so I have no idea who the OP was talking to or what the story is TBH.

I can imagine it won't be the only thing I'll have to sort out when I go back:rolleyes: The down sides of having managers/supervisors who aren't mechanics:(

    My apologies to the OP.

Thank you for your reply. I have asked for yourself and I was told that u r in holidays. I think I got the wrong person at the desk. It's OK, no hard feelings. I got few numbers of places to have it done.
    Great response!
    Thanks again

Not the news you wanted to hear, jbv.

In my humble opinion, you can have your timing belt + service done in a Renault main dealer for about €450 if you negotiate. An independent is ripping you off if they charge the same rate as a main dealer would. Not sure what is going on here. Maybe some independent garages are overcharging here...

I personally think 450 is too expensive to have the timing belt done on a fairly straight forward engine, dealer or indy is irrelivant, however, I'm not sure the that assuming a large independant garage shouldn't change the same or close to a main dealer is right either. There is no reason to assume that a large independant operation would have any less overheads and costs involved then a large branded operation.

However this doesn't help the OP and I again apologise for his experience with my garage...or more to the point, its new manager, who doesn't seem to quite grasp the concept or importance of gaining REPEAT customers:mad::mad:

Sorry, thats my mini rant over, I love coming back off holidays really:rolleyes:

One day, with the help of the euro millions....I'll run a garage my way.
