Is it possible to recieve ESPN on soarview or free to air sat anywhere? Recently returned home and only options available are soarview/free to air sat, or Sky who i was previously with but dont fancy doing back to unless last resort. Ideas??

No. ESPN is a subscription only channel on the Sky platform.

You need to subscribe to SKY to get ESPN in the Republic.
I have freeview from Wales but I would need to live in the UK (po box required) to subscribe to ESPN on freeview/top up tv.

You can subscribe to Setanta Ireland and Setanta sports 1 with a sky box, Setanta will send you a new viewing card if needed.
You would not have to subscribe to sky.

I think Upc may also carry it.

    Are you sure of that?

I had a phone call from their rep recently and asked about getting a card from them as I have no Sky subscription ..... and was told no, not possible.

I was aware they used to do this ..... maybe their rep was really clueless.

If so they would want to waken up ..... as a Setanta card would be sufficient for my sports requirements, as little as they are.
I suspect that lots of others considering dumping Sky and going free to view satellite would like access to a stand-alone sports subscription.

Thanks for any up to date info available. :)

A realistically priced one, which Setanta is not.

Their online subscription service certainly requires you to supply the number of an active Sky viewing card. Maybe its different if you deal with them by phone.

You can take ESPN (& ESPN America) on its own for €16 per month.

Moving this thread to satellite. The Saorview answer is a straight no (and in the likely absence of a pay-TV service on DTT for the foreseeable future will remain so) so the only thing to discuss is the satellite side.

It doesn't have to be an active viewing card. I once upon a time signed up to Setanta with an expired sky viewing card number. This was when they had more Premiership football and the UFC. Two years ago, maybe three.

    Yes Positive.

You can subscribe to Setanta without a Sky subscription.
You need a Sky viewing card.
Even if you dont have a viewing card - Setanta will send you one.

They will send you a card but it's like getting blood from a stone when I think back to a thread posted here ages ago.

    Hi icdg,
Would you still need a sky subscription and the ESPN would be extra.

    Thank you.

I have sent them a message requesting the 'free to view' card.

With any luck I might have it for Xmas :D

I don't know if there is anything available that is of interest, but the first thing is to get a card I suppose.

    regards.

Forgive my ignorance, but do Setanta have a HD service or is it planned?

They have a HD channel but it is on UPC only.
