G-BXGA doing slow tracks up and down the same area of North Wexford this morning. Sh'e going from Courtown to around Camolin, very slowly, then she turns, speeds back to Courtown and starts again only slightly further north. Anyone any ideas as to the surveying this ship does??

If the picture is of the actual helicopter as it's configured, then it's a LiDAR survey of the topography. If it's flying up and down the coast then it's probably a survey of coastal erosion. Which is a problem in that part of Wexford.

Just a guess on my part though.

Its doing the same thing over ballycarney and marshalstown area now. Thought he was looking at the wind turbines first. Obviously mapping the area in fairly good detail. Would love to know why alright

The picture was taken of it this morning as she passed over my house but the flight track starts at the coast and works inland.

    Thanks for your thoughts.

Well it's definitely LiDAR then. It might be for the Ordnance Survey. They don't just take photos.

That same helicopter was also tasked last year with powerline inspection in the Midlands.

Nice pics - dont know what she's surveying.

Its not the OSI LiDAR. She's a flat white box that sits on the floor of the aztec looking through a hole. Whole system is as below:

Google is my friend. Found the above site with a better pic. Looks like the Lidar hanging underneath and the GPS aerials on the out-riggers.

The GPS aerials give it an air of mystery to the unitiated.
that sits on the floor of the aztec
    Not for much longer.;)
