I would be interested to know what happens data that the social welfare have of you when you sign off. Are you wiped off their system or what.

I understand you are taken off the live register.

Do they retain information of an individual when they sign off. I recently read somewhere that because of data protection information can only be held on you for purpose of purposes.

So does this mean when you sign off your information is wiped off their system.

The Live Register is simply a count of the number of people signing on. No personal data is transmitted to the Central Statistics Office. So when you sign off, it simply reduces the Live Register count by 1. However, Social Welfare retains all the information they have on their customers. Signing on or off any scheme is only an event in relation to a person's Social Welfare record.
