Honeymoon in late August in Europe?

    Hey all,
What would people suggest for above. We are thinking about 10 days. We'll have a very tight budget. We'll prob do a proper honeymoon at a later date. So we just want some place to chill out, sun, do few things. As it's August I'm thinking southern and eastern Europe would be too hot. I'm thinking northern Spain/ south of France but I'm not sure if these would be suitable - too crowded, etc. We would like to chill on a beach for few days, bit of sightseeing, nice food and a few activities. We wouldn't rule out hiring a car but it depends on money and other factors. What would you recommend?
    Thanks in advance.

Id say fly to Nice with Ryanair from Dublin. Or Easyjet from Belfast.
It will be hot alright. Around 30C in August, but not too bad i suppose. You get used to it after a couple of days.
Then you can stay anywhere you want along the French Riviera. You wont need a car if you dont want to get one.
Organize a nice hotel with a travel agent which is near trains and buses, because travel agents know the good hotels.
Towns and cities there are not very big, so that means you'll be close enough to transport wherever you stay as long as its not out in the country.

Nice beaches. Loads to see. Easy to travel around. Cheap to travel around. It wont be too crowded. Even drive to Italy or get the train if you feel like it.
From Nice you can go to Nice old town, Villefranche, Monaco, Eze, Cannes, Antibes and many more - you would never run out of places to go.
Get the ferry to Corsica maybe.
Not too expensive for food and drink either unless you want to go to expensive places.

Transport is €1 to anywhere on the bus or €4 for a day ticket for the bus.
Train is about €3 to anywhere I think. Or a day ticket for €13 that takes you anywhere. Even as far as Italy.

    Any other recommendations?
France isn't really on our radar since I last posted. We have been thinking about Croatia/Montenegro. We have heard that you would need to stay in 4/5 star hotels to get good food and accommodation. The places there look lovely and a bit untouched which is nice. Not too many companies seem to offer packages there though.
After talking to some travel agents we were told that cruises are becoming v popular as they are inclusive and pretty cheap too. Prices could be keen now after the cruise accident in Italy.
However, we're not too keen on being stuck to the cruise itinerary. Many seem to arrive in port in early morning and you depart that evening around 5pm. Not too much time to explore a place.
We're pretty keen to stay in Europe and avoid any very long flights.

Lisbon is excellent. Hip city, cheap, good food, good beaches a short drive south of the city. It never gets too hot and never gets too cold. That's one suggestion.

Dalmation coast would be nice around that time

    Thanks for the replies.
Yes I have read a lot of good things about Dalmatian Coast in Croatia. However, it seems it gets crowded in August with a lot of cruise ships docking.
We don't want the place to be too crowded or too hot. I know that August is the busy time anyway.
I hadn't thought about Lisbon. Is it suitable for a honeymoon?
I'm thinking we may have to push our plans back a month or so and let things calm down a bit.
Any other ideas or experiences would be great.

What's a honeymoon other than a special holiday with a new spouse?

I agree with sarkozy (the one posting here, not the French president). It's a good city, with lots of interesting things to see. By the sea, also, but not a beach resort.
