    I am about 4000 for the year on the road bike and about 150 odd on the MTB. I'd like to hit 5k for the year but MTB km count the same as road km but are a feckload harder, and in this weather they make up the bulk of my time on the bike..

    I'd love to shoot for 10k km next year but lack of free time and the fact I work 5km from home and can;t rack em up commuting means 5k km is a more realistic target.

    You could always take "the scenic route" to/from work??

    The proximity to work means I have to drop the kids off at school en route unfortunately. I could of course get up an hour early and do 30km beforehand but I am not a morning person on that regard! Perhaps I should put the cv out there and look for a job in town or on the southside ;)

    9,300km since mid March. I should exceed 10,000 for the year, and I'll probably aim for 13,000 next year.

    7,667.87km at 29.884kph - should get to around 8,500 by the year end, hopefully at 30kph

    About 7000 so far. Was hoping for a big enough year for my first full year at it but was off bike for over two months back at the start which scuppered that plan. Hopefully get another 1k done in dec as long as snow stays away!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 607 ✭✭✭seve65

    about 10.8k so far no target for next year. although i will be keeping an eye on the boards.ie strava climbing comp ;)

    Hope to make it to 7k this year.

    Excuses for not hitting 10k include

    1 - injured until mid feb
    2- changed home for a while which shortened commute
    3 - didn't make the distances I was thinking of at the weekends. Total lack of motivation after the Sean Kelly in September.

    Next year 8k is probably realistic which should comprise 120 x 44 round trip commutes and maybe 40 x 70 weekend spins- give or take.

    Max possible is probably 10k but that would need 40 odd more commutes and maybe 5 more week end spins - depends on how much travel for work really

    11k so far, hoping to get another 1 or 1.5 on the board.

    going for fifteen k next year.

    7500 km done so far, happy with that. Love to break 10,000 next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,031 ✭✭✭CheGuedara

    A comparatively paltry 3909kms for me this year - but will (hopefully) be over the 4000 by the time the year ticks over.

    Will be quite happy with it given it was the year of finishing up and writing the phd from hell. Would be very pleased to increase it to 6-7000kms next year (safe in the knowledge that the viva definitely won't take up as much time! :pac:)

    Target this year (1st year on the racer) 5,000km
    Total so far: 6,602km
    Revised Target 7,000km

    Target next year: 7,500km
    And 10k km the year after

    I started cycling actively around April this year and it is my first year in the saddle.

    Distance covered until now is approx. 5,700 km and I believe I will have done 6,500 km at the end of December.

    Next year I am going to increase the mileage, but it is hard to put a number, so the more the better obviously ;).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,004 ✭✭✭Hmmzis

    Mostly commuting with the odd weekend spin 2900km since May. Hoping to get a few hundred more till Christmas. Next year should be more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭Dubba

    I've done 7.1k so far this year and will try to get to 8k by years end.

    Probably hopefully break the 10k mark next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,505 ✭✭✭macnab

    I have cycled 4675.2km, climbed 36319 meters, and spent 10 days 16 hours 44 minutes in the saddle this year (average speed 29.13km/h) I will break the 5000 this year and aim for 7000 in my 2nd year, I would love to think that I could aim for 10k but other commitments make that very hard.

    Hmmm, not enough. I'm hoping to clear 4k by year end at the moment. I've had a lean few months with both injury and focusing on specific exercises as opposed to soft miles.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 413 ✭✭8kvscdpglqnyr4

    Bought a Garmin 500 at the end of May - 5,078km since the 1st June according to Garmin site and 43,186m of climbing ... that's 5 months. I probably had 5,000km for the first 6 months of the year and will probably get 800km in December.
    Approx Total: 10,800km

    Target for next year is more of the same

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,684 ✭✭✭triggermortis

    I'd say I've done around 2500Km this year. Only started in Feb and had a few months off with work commitments but hope to do more next year.
    I'll be commuting on my work week once I get a bike sorted in the new year and hope to do more sportives and events. I'm not a racer so I'm happy with what I've done so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭JOHN_70

    Approx 7000km so far might get to 8000. Helped by an 81km round trip commute that I do at least twice a week.

    In case there is any confusion, I am the target :P

    No idea what my mileage was for the year so far but I imagine about 10K kms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,315 ✭✭✭chakattack

    9920km year to date as of this evening. Almost there...goal was 10k

    64,000m climbing
    350 hrs in the saddle
    Roughly 1.8 million pedal strokes

    Weather permitting should hit 11k before the end of December.

    Will aim for 15k next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 304 ✭✭mfdc

    I think I'm at about 3000km for the year so far, which is pretty disappointing! The cold last winter totally threw me out of any kind of rhythm and I got way too lazy, basically did feck all up until May. Definite room for improvement next year.

    However, I have commuted 17km each way almost every day this year, so I reckon about 7000km extra in the bag there so far. I didn't track my commute until recently so that's only an approx figure, next year will be far more precise.

    Speaking of... overall goal for next year, hmm lets say 14000 :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 172 ✭✭Rofo

    2,800km since March. Should hit 3,500 by end of year weather permitting. Happy enough with this for my first year. Will be aiming for 5,000km next year as a minimum.

    Just did a quick tot - don't have everything logged.

    Roughly 6,000. A lot of that is 110k pw commuting.

    Sunday spins and Sportives make up the rest. My milage has increased over the last few months since I started going on ThinkBike Road spins (which seem to be uphill ALL THE TIME) as has my average speed which is inching slowly up.

    I don't see myself increasing this dramatically next year unless I win the lotto and jack in the day job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,063 ✭✭✭on_the_nickel

    Data from first half of year lost as I was using cyclogs :(. Logged 1000km in June/July and since then I've 1747km in Strava, so maybe 5000km for the year?

    Not great, but a really busy year in work, lots of travel, and an injury in July are my excuses reasons. Of late, spins have been really curtailed due to the wife expecting and having to mind the two other lunatics at home so it's been quality, not quantity.

    Baby is due early January, so the target for next year is, well, ask the wife!

    .........but with 7k worth of vertical meters I'd imagine :pac:

    As for myself (my 1st full year) my Ciclotrainer tells me 5314km @ 161hours (33km/h :eek:) but I suspect that's a little out, more like I'm @ 27 or 28km/h. Vertical meters @ 60572m.

    Goals for next year are more to do with finishing a race well, ie. in the bunch, rather than completing so many km's. I am toying with the idea of trying to complete the SKT160km on a compact chainset but with an 11-21 cassette :o

    10,250 so far, would usually have more but was mad busy during the summer with work so not much club racing this year.

    9200 ish might just break the 10k ? if december is nice to me since im back in training

    Year to date: 6,710kms on the bike, none too shabby for a 'fred'. 2,397kms ran. I'll do 10k between both come year end.

    about 150km vertical for the year :P would only get me into the top 120 on strava for the 2011 climbing comp :o

    7,000km of good quality diverse mileage, 96 road rides, with 69,500m of climbing. 254hrs. 27.5kmph. Add 12 hours of intensive turbo.

    Reckon my best year ever, some wonderful highlights, including:
    for the first time for me, improving my steep hill climbing to a good level in training before riding the wonderful Amstel Gold route in April;
    watching Cancellara and Gilbert in Flanders from a position high on the Muur;
    a new day distance record riding Dublin-Cork on 24th June, one of the roughest weather days of the year and raising €6.5k for charity in the process;
    a fast RoK in July as one of a twosome;
    a strong third Tour de Munster in August, including coming 2nd to Sean Kelly in one of the hammerdrops;
    achieving the KOM on strava on Patricks Hill in Cork (that'll prompt some attempts!);
    setting two good '10' TT times, just seconds outside 40kmph averages (unfinished business for 2012);
    and finally a marvellous 4 days in Mallorca with some big climbing in Sept.

    I'll probably hit 7,500km or so for the year. Dec should be about 400-500km.

    Next year I'd like to top this mileage, but 10,000km is not realistic, given I don't commute. A few things I want to do include Paris-Roubaix; a 300 and/or a 400; Dublin-Cork again - bigger event this time; a high-Alps tour.

    Good thread; I'm impressed with how many of you do get towards and above 10,000km.

    I was away from cycling for nine months after breaking my leg when someone left a brick in the cycle lane last october and I missed it in the dark despite having lights on...

    Got a new bike in July and have racked up 4700km so far, the belly is receeding thank god!

    I'd say I'll manage 10k for next year might even push it to 12 if I see I'm doing well, it is getting slippier these mornings though, I wish the council made a better attempt to collect the leaves but what can you do.

    On the road between January and the 5th of June this year I did approx. 5300km in preparation for the Marmotte, then snap...... that was the sound of my femur breaking.

    What a fooking waste.:(

    Finally made it over the 8K mark today, 8009km. Gave myself a little goal to break it a few weeks back. Beautiful afternoon, 65km around howth and NCD. Can't see how I could better that next year but will give it a lash.

    Yay! - 7,012 for 2011 at an average of just a smidge over 25kph

    Already have 22.3km done in 2012 - the next 7,977.7 should be a breeze (at least the return 22.3 should be as I'll have the wind with me)
