Going to Berlin with 6 friends for 4 days in Feb and need so advice I need to know where to stay (somewhere central and safe)? did a bit of research but the city is so vast and got confused by it all. Basically looking to do all the sights by day and eat, drink and party at night So somewhere close to transport and not too boring/industrial or far away would be ideal. Also if anyone knows of any good bars, accommodation (hotel 3* or self catering apts) shopping areas would be grateful

I was there last month and stayed in Plus Berlin. It is in the east of the city and is beside a train station. Only a couple of minutes taxi ride to Alexanderplatz.

It is really good value and look like it was only opened very recently. Highly recommended!

i went with a college trip last year for 3 nights! amazing city, great sights, really great night life and all at a pretty reasonable price!

We stayed in The Generator Hostel, it said to be the biggest in Europe! couldn't recommend it more! was very cheap, no more than 20 a night I think! More like a hotel, really nice rooms, clean, good facilities, wifi and all that, theres a really nice canteen to get food and the breakfast in the morning in great. also theres a bar in there aswell, it has happy hour every day from 5-7pm, we used to get vodka and oranges for like 1.50, beers were a euro! also a great little kebab house round the corner with really good beer! its right beside the tube station which will bring you straight into the city centre!

With regards to nightlife, its top notch, we went to Club Matrix two of the nights and we did an organised pub crawl the other night which left The Generator Hostel and covered a load of bars and 2 or 3 clubs, the clubs go til very late over there too! really liked Club Matrix, lots of different rooms with different styles of music. on that pub crawl there was some great deals on drinks too.

With regard to sightseeing, we did a bus tour which was good, saw The Berlin Wall and other stuff, was very hungover to be honest! some others went to the zoo and we also went to Saksenhausen concentration camp which was an hour on a train, a chilling place but something im glad I experienced.

Hope that helps, great city for a weekend break, great nightlife, great beer obviously and great sights and very reasonable!

I've been to Berlin twice this year May and October and I stayed in The Circus Hotel, it's 2 stops on the underground from Alexanderplatz. Read the reviews for it on tripadvisor, it really is as good as people say!!

I stay with a friend in Berlin so don't really know where to suggest staying. If there for a minimum of 3 nights, apartments can be a great way to go to get a real feel for the city (Prenzlauerberg and Kreutzberg would be the best districts in this regard).

Nightlife is a tricky thing to recommend, too. I hate clubs, and going to grotty bars in anarchist squats with breeze-blocks for seats probably isn't everyone's idea of fun. And probably neither is spending two whole days on Museum Island and the modern art museum because the art and music scene there is so amazing.

If it's just a pissup and the 'sights', may as well stay in Mitte district, it's all geared to tourists.
