Buying a 99 UK spec WRX what to look for

Hi all I am planning to buy a performance turbo petrol car once again (when sold my last one my brother said you are going to miss the oomph big time bro-he was right) and decided to go for a Subaru. Was toying with the idea to get a Skyline or Silvia but found this well within the budget and will go for it.
Does any of you have any specific points to look out for when buying?

I am fairly handy with cars, can spot most problems straight away but would like to know any specific or troublesome points to look for before the deal.

    Thank you.

looks like a clean example. its not a WRX as per your thread and its not mentioned in the ad, and quite right too as the 99 versions were simply "Turbo" versions as opposed to the JDM WRX and STi versions.

the car should be 240bhp as standard, so ask the seller what has been done to get the extra power from it.

Although its a UK/EU version, id still recommend getting it mapped for irish petrol (Maxol E5 as its supposed to be 99ron or thereabouts) if its not done already.

check service history and ask the owner about oil changes, and specifically what type of oil he was using. ask him about warming up and cooling down to suss out if he had some mechanical symphtony for the car.

all of this on top of the usual car checks such as crash damage, import status, maintainance, finance etc etc

Ali Burrows is fairly well known in scooby circles, so a quick phone call to him should shed some light on the car also.

It says in the ad that the engine has been rebuilt to STI spec?

It also states he changed oil every 3500 miles and always let it warm and cool!

Out of curiosity, who is Ali Burrows?

OP, looks like a nice well minded car, best of luck with it!

Thanks lads, does any of you know what to look out for in the awd department? Does it come with only a transfer box or 3 differentials as an STI?
