I'm considering importing a new mtb frame from the states and wanted to get an idea of the total import duty I could get hit with. The frame would cost about $2300(€1750) in the states versus €2600 this side of the pond. Anyone know how I can work out what the import duty would be?

    Oh! What are you getting?

Have a look at this page: www.dutycalculator.com/help_center/Import-duty-taxes-when-importing-into-ireland/

It's 4.7 per cent for frames. Then you add 21 per cent VAT on top of that, i.e. price plus duty.

Cheers for that guys. From my calculations that'll add on another €430ish to the frame!

This is what I'm looking at:

Don't forget that the 4.7% duty is on the price of the frame, shipping and insurance (ie. total price to get the frame to ireland). Then the 21(23)% VAT goes on top of all of that...

Just out of interest does anyone know what the rate is for full bikes, I believe it's a higher rate than a frame on it's own?
