The ThinkPad X121e for 376 is pretty damn good tbh.

isnt that a netbook display is only 11inch??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,893 ✭✭✭j4vier

the specs look good , laptops of that size with i3 are generally a lot more expensive
i m after looking at a youtube video of it and im not too convinced of the hd display

netbooks have 10" screens, so this is slightly larger. Still a small portable laptop though. But it has a good processor. Still a good deal.

i bought the x121e about 6 weeks ago.... very happy - perfectly portable, but much better spec's than a netbook - 15" laptops too big to lug around - upgraded to 8GB RAM - I use photoshop/lightroom - runs sweetly - all for less than €400 - its a bargain alright

Is the AMD Mobility Radeon HD 6630 Switchable (2GB VRAM, mSATA capable) decent or better than the nVidia 525m?

    Considering the thinkpad E520.

I know nothing about them its just for a 12 year old who wants to go on the usual facebook you tube.... he also wants to make his own cds?

    Thanks

i decided to buy it but when i do it says it is redirecting me away from the lenovo site is that normal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

    Some cracking value there!

Even the base model of the E525 at €305 is great value..

.. use a similar Lenovo day in day out in work - and they're some of the best built laptops IMO.

Bought one few months ago.....Took a fair while to get a tracking number and it think it took bout three and half weeks. Started in China, went to korea, then to Kazikstan, then Germany, then Shannon and finally to my house!

    [slightly OT]

I find Apple hit and miss...

.. more hit than miss.. but for every well-built aluminium MBP, there's a plastic MB cracking into pieces - and my own woes!

Don't get me wrong.. it's still running great after 4 years but truly horrible build quality / decisions went into that.

Gonna pick up a new MBP next year anyways.

Hopefully the 1-2 week wait is right or I will have a very disapointed little man on xmas morning!

Was looking at getting a netbook for travelling etc but seeing this promo am tempted by either the S205 or the X121e .... don't know much about computers but would it be worth it to go the extra now and get one of these? Will there be any better deals say after Xmas?
Whats the difference between Windows Home Premium and Professional?? I use Windows XP on my Desktop and Windows 7 (I think!) at work ... thoughts?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭ecomac

There is no difference between home and proffesional Win7 for average user. I've been thinking to get X121E myself, but lack of USB 3.0 has put me off from doing that. Besides, you can get X121E for similar price from other sellers. They could do better.

Difference of XP mode and remote desktop between professional and home premium.

XP mode might be useful for playing older games or using software.

I got the x121e from the site - 397 delivered, thanks OP.

I haven't really seen the x121e being sold at a similar price (from my admittedly 10 short minutes of searching). In fact, I've just found very recent reviews (indicating that this is a new-ish machine) and that the prices the reviewers paid were much higher (for a slightly higher spec'd machine).

4gb of ram from ebay costs 20 euro :)

I didn't look to much either - it took me 1 min to find it - 400-ish E121X http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenovo-ThinkPad-Fusion-1-65GHz-NWS5XUK/dp/B00648TKDA/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1322344046&sr=8-3 , (AMD instead Intel, but 4GB RAM). They are not going to be dearer in next months. Laptops are getting cheaper every month, and leak of USB 3.0 is BIG disatvantage for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 208 ✭✭ecomac

Bottom line is - if you are looking for laptop - get it. If you are looking for BARGIN laptop - don't.

I saw those - but the review sites state that the AMD processors are around 200 pounds cheaper than the i3 versions.

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/lenovo-thinkpad-x121e_Laptop_review
Lenovo achieved all this in a machine starting at £330, though we’d probably go for the 3G-sporting Core i3 version at just £510...

The former gives you a more powerful CPU with less versatile graphics, while the latter emphasises graphics performance over processing power and is essentially a netbook, hence its starting price of under £330. This being the case, we’ve gone for the i3 version - which incidentally also comes with 3G, all for a mere £510.

The 330 pounds was for the AMD "netbook-esque" version I believe.

Whether the Intel one is worth the 200 pound premium over AMD, I'm not entirely sure, but the Amazon product is definitely very different to the Lenovo offer.

That's exactly what I said. If you need a latop now - get it. It's a fair price, but it's not a bargain. If you looking for a bargain laptop, hold on. You can either get a better laptop for same price (doscount is only 15%) or same laptop for a better price shortly. Simple as that.

Performance on the two is about the same, 6630 edges out the 525m in some cases

Anyone else having problems ordering using the lenovo site?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,410 ✭✭✭danois

I got an email saying my order has shipped. There was a link to track it, that brought me to ups page. When the page opened there was a popup that said customers are responsible for customs duty?? Does this mean i will have to pay more for it when its delivered???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

On my understanding (not legal advice) - no - as you ordered through the Irish portal, the business is reponsible for the duties to be paid from shipping it from China.

I believe the UPS statement is just a general notification that if custom duties had to be paid, it is the responsibility of the recipient. i.e. if you had bought from Lenovo USA or Lenovo China you'd be expected to pay duties and VAT.

Oh yeah forgot to say very happy with machine (thinkpad edge i5, 6gigram, 600gb hard drive, wireless n) but one thing that annoys me is there is no indicator to show that the laptop is fully charged unless turned on looking at battery meter. I know its a small thing but could so easily have been corrected

Around a week.ordered e320. I've been setting them up for last few days. Nice machines, feel like unibody plastic case, no squeaking, fast. Battery lasts around 6.5-7h

Regret that I don't have any spare cash because I would get one myself without doubts.

No optical drive though, but only 1.7kg with battery
