I hope this is the correct section, couldn't find a better forum to ask in.

Are you allowed an MP3 player while on remand in Cloverhill?

Does anyone know if you are allowed one when you are on remand in the UK?

IF the answer is yes, do you know if 1) you can bring your own player and music? 2) if players that display video are allowed?

    Thanks in advance.

Dunno about MP3 Players in general but as far as I am aware there is a strict prohibition on devices with any sort of video on them.

Only is you don't have illegal downloads on it.

Copyright offences are serious crimes, really.

Thanks for all the quick replies, I am asking for a friend. He has converted a lot of his CD's to MP3's to bring with him, so they are not illegal, although I don't know how the authorities would establish that.

    Makes sense about video.

Regarding charging, it has options of batteries, or mains.

    Spacedog isn't being serious.

It will really be down to the regime in the particular prison. UK will be different from Ireland. Remand prisoners generally receive a more benign regime. Once convicted, new prisoners are entitled to very little, but once they get known small privileges will be allowed.

Technical point: that's still not legal unless the CD expressly permits it. It has never been prosecuted though, unless shared.
