my self and 4gun went out in my local stomping grounds in tip for a bit of foxing, we had to get up early in the morning as the real reason we were there was to do a bit of fallow stalking for a change.
any way we said we would just stay out for a short time and get our selves home and in bed nice and early to be fresh for the next morning
with in 10 min of lamping a couple of big fields we spotted our first set of eyes and it looked like there were sheep off to the right of this fox.

260 yards first fox of the night with 58gr V-MAX .243

happy with our good start we walked up on the fox to retrieve it when low and behold another one strolled across in front of us we had the .22lr with us for rabbits which i had in my hand at the time so at 40 yards we took our opportunity and shot this lad in the chest. he ran 10 paces and keeled over dead that made 2
    6b58e7f2.jpg

as it turns out there were no sheep in the field as we spotted another set of eyes of a fox that was not hanging about to join his 2 friends.
on to the next field. another fox.
552018d2.jpg then on to another field and another 2 fox of which i shot one and missed the other as it ran from right to left. my phone had died at this stage so sorry no pic of this one.

we went back to the jeep and i plugged in the phone to charge and we moved to a different area
not long after getting out of the jeep we had another set of eyes it was charlie again he wasnt far so we took a quick shot and nailed him

4gun will have to insert the pic for this one as my phone was still charging.

we were up on 5 at this stage and we couldnt believe how many were around. you could tell i had not bin around foxing for a while between selling my .223 and waiting for my .243 license to come threw.

we moved on again and believe it or not it was like they were out looking for me there were more eyes No. 6
    00432f3e.jpg.
    .
    then No.7 & 8
    7e3e8981.jpg

well this was all very exciting but it was getting late now and we had to get up early in the morning for some stalking (the real reason we were in tip).
but it is hared to stop when everything is going so well so we stopped in to one last field near my home place and low and behold another fox. my light was fading at this stage but we could see her clearly as she trotted away from us but we let out a bark and she stopped for a second to see what was going on but that was all i needed. crack and we had 9 in the bag.

as i said my light was fading and even though it was only long grass we couldnt find this fox so we had to come back for her in the morning after our stalk.

so we did and as we went down the farm track to get to the field i spotted a fox lying out in the sun beside a small pond having forty winks. so back to the jeep and got the .243 and snuck back to catch the unsuspecting fox just looking up at me as i pointed the rifle at him crack. that made 10.

we walked down to where we left the fox the night before and there he was. we had almost walked over him the night before but missed him as the light faded on us

that is my highest tally so far with a couple of long shots and a couple of cheeky short shots and a few in between we had a cracking night and hopefully made safe a few lambs come the spring

a big thanks to 4gun for the help i couldnt have done it with out him,
    cheers mate :D
i also cant get over how well the .243 is performing. i shot all those fox with 58gr v-max and it loved them. and the next day i went out and spent the day stalking with 95gr sst's but thats another story thanks to ireland custom rifles for such a cracking rifle ;)

Cracking caliber .....very much the real all rounder .Cheap, readily available ammo and easy to shoot very little recoil .Fine build from Fergal ,as usual .Goes to show with a good rifle ,its the nut behind the butt that counts.

I have to say, I'm sorely tempted to do similar

Although I'd stay .308 for versatility on bigger game.

Paulo is a great shot, I have no doubt in his or his Rifles ability

at the rate they were coming out of the fields we could easily have shot at least 5 or 6 more within an other couple of hours
The day started off wet but as it moved into evening it started to clear up, I felt there would be plenty around as it was quiet mild and they might be out searching for grubs and such, it never dawned on me it might be mating season aswell
Pulo wanted me to take a shot, but as he was doing so well I was afraid that I might Jinx it,

i have that caller as well but to be honest we didnt have to do much calling the other night but any calling that we did was just to get their attention as they were not taking much attention of us at all.
4gun does a very gentle but affective call with his mouth that is better than any caller i have ever used.
just remember sometimes less is more. and dont be afraid to try a couple of different callers. one will work for some fox and not for other

    happy hunting ;)

I have on several occasions had to duck to avoid a curious owl while calling foxes on my own
the owls woul be well able to see me but would circle once or twice a few feet above my head ;)

on monday night I'd nearly think we could have gone "HERE FOXY, FOXY" and they would have come running....:D
