Yeah there's a gauze filter located there allright. We had a MF 675 aprox 15 yrs ago and lift stopped working on one occasion after we had working a grain auger off the hydraulics - I'd say the constant running of oil over a couple of hours churned up dirty in the back end and blocked the filter.

Dropped the filter, washed in diesel, replace the oil no bother after that.

A word of caution there could be 5 or 6 gallons of oil in the back end - just make sure you have a big enough container to collect it all.

The filter at the front in front of the rad is to cool the power steering oil.

Yeah the PTO turning is a common problem on the 6 series and the 3 series MF when you start up the engine from cold. It usually stops after a couple of minutes when the oil warms up. Not sure the reason why though.

As regards the dropping lift - i have no idea but an experienced mechanic should have a fair idea.

Karzz...how did you get on with your problem? My lifts aren't working properly and confused. How do you drain the oil and was it easy taking out the filter? Any help appreciated!
