Eircom mail issue

    Hi,

My mother is having a problem where her emails don't show up when she logs into her email via eircom.net. She also uses Outlook Express where everything works fine, but on eircom.net, the only mails that show up are in the Sent box and quite old.

This wouldn't be a major problem except she can't access her mails on her smartphone as a result.

Anyone know what might be the issue here?

    Hi liamupton,

Can I just confirm your mother can access and view the e-mails on a desktop/ laptop ok & it is just on the smartphone?

    Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark, thanks for the reply.

She can access her emails on her desktop, but only through Outlook Express. She can't access her mails through the eircom.net website, either on the desktop or the smartphone.

More than likely her Outlook Express settings just need to be changed.

Get her to go into Outlook Express => Tools => Accounts

Highlight her eircom.net email address, then click Properties=> Advanced

Look for Delivery - there will be various options there such as Leave a copy of message on server, remove from server after x amount of days & remove from server when deleted etc. Depending on what options are ticked/unticked that will affect whether or not her mails are kept on the server after being retrieved initially from Outlook Express & if they can subsequently be accessed from other devices

The above may not be the exact wording or location, but basically she will find these settings somewhere in Properties.

If she changes some of these settings in Outlook Express by ticking or unticking it may solve her problem. If she just ticks the box for Leave copy of message on server, & unticks everything else she should be able to access her mails from everywhere, but bear in mind that if she does that her mailbox will eventually fill up, so she would want to delete her mails regularly from server, but that can be regulated by choosing Delete from server after x amount of days. Play around with the settings to see what suits her best.

Thanks a million jeckle, that solved it alright. We messed about in Properties alright, I guess I didn't cop that by 'server' they meant the original mail server. Anyway, thanks again.
