cant see that happening. how can you deadbait without triple hooks? also whats the reason behind banning them. Impossible to enforce, 11 years fishing, never once seen a fisheries board officer

Treble hooks are banned for salmon fishing on certain rivers where only catch-and-release is allowed, that might be where confusion has arisen. The draft regulations for salmon angling in 2012 have been published recently, so restrictions on treble hooks on C&R rivers would have been mentioned in that, as they are in the draft regulations every year.
Just to clarify, treble hooks are not banned on rivers that are open for salmon fishing and have a quota, or for other types of angling on lakes etc e.g. pike angling, etc. The ban relates only to rivers that are open on a C&R basis for salmon, where single barbless hooks only are permitted.

It would be nice to see a ban on treble hooks over a certain size (6 maybe?). The only thing they are good for is strokehauling.

What size hooks do jerkbaits need? Presumably they are used for pike in Ireland.
