Should one scanned page be 25MB in Adobe reader v 10.1.1? It is a business letter and has a logo

    Not really,

    Change the scanner settings

Or you can download and install CutePDF

Which adds a pdf printer so if you print the document select the Cute PDF printer and it will give you the option where to save the PDF

This should be a reduced size version of your PDF

Thanks;) got down to 1.9 mb by scanning as B/W. Would colour be that much of a differenced?

Are you saving it as a PDF from your scanner. I've found that if I just save as an image and then insert the image into a document and save as a PDF it comes out considerably smaller even colour scans.

yes put letter on scanner and save as file. Tried again in colour and back to 25MB. Anyway B/W is fine so long as it can be read it does not matter

Edit 25MB is colour document pdf in 300 DPI.
At 150 DPI its 6.2MB for colour document pdf
And at 72 DPI it is 1.4MB for colour document pdf

I was selecting the wrong DPI
