Hey, was just looking for a definitive answer for this, i just ordered the parts to build my first rig, i have XP on this old machine, will i be able to buy an upgrade copy of windows 7 and do a clean install on the new rig? or do i have to buy the full version?

You are only allowed buy an upgrade if you have a transferable license to upgrade from. If the copy of XP is OEM or it's an upgrade based on a previous copy of OEM then it lives / dies with the motherboard it was supplied with.

If you're going to install without this you might as well get a copy of MAC OSX for €30

There are plenty of free operating systems out there so there is no excuse.
