    Hi all

Really want to get a 3 week manicure done for Xmas, so I was wondering if you had any tips on how to keep my nails strong?

I do a lot of sports and always crack/chip my nails:rolleyes:

    Thanks!

Do you mean to keep your nails strong before the manicure or during?

If you've no polish or just normal polish, the sally hansen nail strengthening topcoat is good. I like using it for when I've got breakage and it sorts it out.
3 week manicure should be fine though without anything extra.

Sorry I meant before getting it done. Had it done in August but just want to make them strong and grow longer in the next few weeks so I actually have enough nail to get it done!

    Thanks for the recommendation!

I find Avon's strong results great, also OPI's nail envy.... if you can find someone who does bio sculpture rather than a 3 week manicure, it'll be less damaging on your nails but have the same look ;)

If you want strong nails, it's all about diet. Make sure you're getting enough selenium, for one. Check with your nutritionist what you should be eating to have strong nails.

What's bio structure? How is it different to the likes of shellac? Sounds interesting :)

this link gives a quick explanation
    http://www.biosculpturemanicures.com/
basically there's a lot less damage to the natural nail, I used to get mine done every 4 to 6 weeks (yes it lasted that long) but the girl who did them emigrated :( now all I've to do is find someone new to do them for me. I've tried gel / acrylic / shellac & my nails are always damaged after removal but not with the bio sculpture - so in my experience anyways it lives up to it's claims
edited to add - that's not the same brand that the girl who I used to go to used though but it explains it the same :)

I second bio sculpture. They are really good. They also do a nail strenghtener which is fantastic. But the secret of nail strenghteners is to apply every day for a week and not to apply for three weeks and continue with this. You can weaken your nails if your over use a strenghtener on your nails.

I think that the shellac or similar products are great for the time that you have them on but can really weaken your nails if you don't take them off properly.

Oh another good tip to do when you have the shellac nails on is to apply cuticle oil every day and this will help keep them in good condition.

No sorry Tabitharose, there are so many cheaper products out there that i think very few people do them any more. Its a pity cause they are so good
