    1st time poster here.

My 4 year old Tag Carrera Automatic is in being repaired/serviced at watchrepairs.ie at the minute. It has a silver case/dial with silver bracelet/strap. I recently saw the same/similar watch with a brown leather strap & really liked the look of it.

What are the pros & cons of changing the strap? Is is something I do myself, or is is a specialist job? Can it be done relatively frequently, or are they not really designed to be changed too often?

    Thanks

hey you can order a tag strap from any tag heuer agent and when the strap arrives it only takes a few minutes to fit. tag straps are around the €250 mark but you could also put a generic strap on it for alot less. it just means you dont have tag written on the inside of the strap, apart from that they last the same length of time (roughly 16 - 18 months depending on the wear it gets). and as for doing it yourself its quite tricky to do as the spring bars do fly out quickly. a friend got hit in the eye and was lucky that he still has perfect sight

You'd want to be pretty unlucky for that to happen. It's a pretty easy task. I've done a fair few myself at this stage, though luckily most of my watches are solid bar watches which are a doddle by comparison. However if you feel unsure, then any jeweler worth his or her salt could do it for you if you buy the strap, generic or official in the shop. IMHO the official straps can be mad money and not exactly great value.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

I can highly recommend Hisrch Straps. Good quality for the fraction of the price. Just buy a Tag buckle or deployment to go with it if you want the complete look.

As an American we here mostly go with bracelets. Here is why. The bracelet will work in all conditions and last far longer than a leather, or rubber strap. Typically for many at least here that don't baby their watch. A rubber strap will last maybe 2 years. Leather strap may last just 6 month's to a year or a lot longer. If your going to be getting the watch wet much or you will be wearing the watch in hot weather where you will sweat. I would not get a leather strap. If your just doing suit and tie type work then go for that leather strap.

Keep the bracelet and try the leather would be my advice. Also I would consider a custom made strap as you can exactly what you want. Toshi is one I suggest. http://www.toshi-straps.co.uk/testimonials.html
