    I am about to purchase a 2005 520D with 66,000 miles on the clock - from a maintenance/known error perspective is there anything I need to watch out for?

    - Knocking, squeaking from the rear (worn suspension components)
    - Knocking from front (track rod ends)
    - Brakes can be expensive to replace, check when they've been last fitted
    - Run-flat tyres can be expensive to replace, bear in mind. If standard tyres are fitted, make sure there's a spare in the boot
    - Crankshaft pulleys can give trouble but will be noisy
    - Check for a service history with the oil seperator (or breather) being replaced every 3rd oil service, don't bother if the seller can't prove this
    - Noisy turbo (sounds like it's whistling) or excessive smoke from the exhaust
