Former All Black winger and current Japan coach John Kirwan is expressing interest in the England job according to this: http://www.espnscrum.com/england/rugby/story/154946.html Add in Ashton, Youngs, Flood,Tuilagi, Foden etc and you are talking really exciting times ahead. :D

Why would you want to join that organisation? It's a poisoned chalice.

Because there are some great players in the England squad and with the right coach the glory days will be back? And John Kirwan might fancy a knighthood to add to his MBE.

The RFU need a lot more than the right coach.

If Kirwan was picked ahead of Eddie O Sullivan I think it's safe to safe the problems in the RFU are still very much there.

If you take it when Kirwan was with Italy they won 2 games in all the 6 Nations he was in charge of. This was his first management job as far as I know. He then went to Japan who are 15 in the world, I think he started with them in 2007 when they were 18th. So he has improved them. The gulf between Italy and Japan and England is huge though. He would be a rookie coach at that level. EOS was with Ireland and had them hovering around 4/5th in the world for quite a while. He's also beaten both OZ and SA a few times, and been on Lions tours. His coaching career goes back to when he was playing so he is a far more experienced coach at every level than Kirwan.

I think Kirwan would be still learning on the job whereas EOS would have a definite plan from day 1. England need a definite plan!

I still think it'll be Jim Mallinder. Backed him last week at 3/1 as well.
