Car Rental Galway

    Hi,
I need to rent a car for a day and I need to be able to pick it up about 7am.
I have called (what I think are all) the main suppliers and none open until 8.00am and said it would take about 30 mins to process the car.
One company did say they could come in at 7.55am which was nice but not massively helpful. The only alternative they can offer is to rent it for a 2 day period.

My question is; has anyone rented a car in Galway with an early morning pick up facility?
    Thanks!
    :)

Tbh I doubt it. It's not as though there is an international airport nearby.

hmm, that's actually what one company said too!

They also wanted to add 25euros as a surcharge for a city location pick up even though it is the only office they have!

    Darn it...

    Thanks though...

How about picking up the car the evening before and dropping it back around the same time on the following day? That would be counted as a one day rental.

Yep, that is the logical option. My only problem with that is the time etc to get to the car rental the day beforen and general stuff like that.
As they also close at 6pm it would need to be picked up more or less at 6pm to be able to drop it back by close of biz then next day and have use for a full day. Then I end up in the evening traffic battle of the pick up evening.

But yes, saves on 2 days and I don't see a way around it at this stage.

    Thanks!!:)

If you book through a broker website (I have used www.arguscarhire.ie) then you may find that the price of two days is less than the price for one day if you go direct to the companies.

If you do this and want to take full-cover insurance ... leave it until you get to the copany, sometimes it gets "lost" if you buy it through the site.

AFAIK, there is only one company with a city-centre office: with them, you go to the office for the paperwork, and pick up the car from Hynes carpark in Merchants Rd. If there are any issues with the car that aren't shown on the paperwork (scratches etc) you need to take the car around to the office to agree the starting state. But if there are no issues, you can leave the car in Hynes until you want to take it out. Similarly, you can drop it back to Hynes, and the keys into the rental company office, at any time - yes, you are taking the risk that someone will damage it after you've dropped it there, but depending on where you live I think it is often safer in the building, provided you pick a good spot to put it in.
