Hiya, does anyone know roughly how long it takes the 16a to get to the airport in evening rush hour from city centre?

Whereabouts in the city centre are you going from? O'Connell Street?

From O'Connell Street I would allow about 50-60 minutes. It will probably take less than that but given off-peak it takes 35 minutes that should be enough.

When I used to commute to Santry for a while I'd go along with lxflyers estimates, although if the 41 which can be caught at Abbey Street or Dorset Street is an option that would shave another five minutes as it doesn't take the detour around Beaumont.

If you have an annual dublin bus pass it also works on the 747s (presume monthly's do as well not sure though).

DB Rambler tickets (1, 3, 5, and 30 Day), Bus/Luas 1, 7, 30 Day and Annual tickets, Travelwide Bus Only Monthly and Annual tickets, Short Hop Bus/Rail Monthly and Annual tickets, and family tickets (1 day) are all valid on Airlink.

16A is horrendously slow and takes in a lot of eye-sore parts of north Dublin. The couple of tourists on board can usually be heard grumbling about them.

At the very least 5 minutes. Traffic in beaumont can be very bad at peak times. 41 is much better bet plus if you're in the city centre you're better able to judge when it will come as the route starts there.

Agreed - I was only normally traveling on the 16A in the mornings towards the airport. In the evenings I can imagine it being worse.

Indeed - I would hardly call Beaumont an eye sore.

Exactly where are you referring to?

vs the magical mystery tour of Sheriff St environs on the 747...

You have other options, if you don't like the 16A or the 747 you have the 41 which doesn't go through Beaumont, and the Aircoach, which doesn't go through the Port Tunnel and instead via Drumcondra.

Versus the hulking grey concrete blocks of social housing that greet you on the way into town from LHR/CDG/SXF and the like?

Don't ask me, ask the tourists that are gasping in awe at the sights...

So now you're a mind reader too.

    16a is fine.

I don't see any big problems with it either, sure it's slower than the 747, Aircoach and 41 but then again it's much cheaper than the first two. And Beaumont really is not that bad, there are far bigger eyesores in Dublin and run down areas than here by a long strech.

Not really, comments like "Oh my God, what a dump" kind of do away with the need to mind read.

How many times have you travelled that route and how many times have you heard comments like that?

What are you trying to prove? That only a minority of tourists think there are places worthy of being called a dump?

That you're making up stuff/exaggerating to have a pop at the route it takes.

The route is OK. So what is 1/2 tourists aren't enthused by the scenary.

Why would I be arsed. A lot of North Dublin isn't the prettiest.

Please don't turn this into a Northside vs Southside debate.
