iPhone measuring app?

I'm looking for an app that will measure point to point on the course in yards, preferably via gps. for example, mark point A where you stand and walk to point B and get the distance as the crow flies

I do have a laser to get my yardages to the pin, but I would like to have this feature, to measure tee shots, distance to the landing area on blind holes etc.

I have tried a couple of apps already but they are not accurate, while leaving the phone on a table, marked a to b, obviously expecting 0yards, I was getting 22 yards and 35 yards! So gps is the only way I think

    Would appreciate suggestions

    Thanks

I think the swing by swing app has that know. For measuring club distances.

You need to give the gps time to get your exact location before walking off though.

Btw I don't use this so can't vouch for its accuracy

Could be to do with the fact that you're indoors. GPS on phones only gives approximate distances until its outdoors to pick up the actual satelitte signal

Like if im indoor and put on google maps it has me about 500m from my house. Once i go outside it has me exactly where im standing.

Maybe that has something to do with it ?

If your course is covered by google earth you can use the measuring tool and make a yardage book. Ya would know I was a cheap student :p I have taken the average spot of my drive on google earth and measured it, 220m is all it is unfortunately. :p

I have tried Golfshot on Android and so:
when it works, it works quite well. maybe better than 3 meters accuracy. well enough when your looking at driving and long irons. BUT:
more than 1/2 the time it just doesnt work. will be 3000 meters out.
and thats on a golf course, maybe cloudy (when isnt?) not under trees etc.
basically i gave up on it, it could be the phone but i dont have any other choice.

Just the android phone I would say, first day I got mine (iphone 4) I walk to the 150m marker on the first hole. Took out the phone and it read 165 yards to the center. There is one course (Adare) where it seems to be a couple of yards off alright but I find it brilliant. Wherever you use it give it 2 seconds once stationary and it's spot on.

Thumbs up for the Golfshot, it is fairly accurate. There is a function where you can measure your shot, I think it's called record the shot, and recently they included a whole load of features that I haven't used yet. My only real gripe is that it sucks my battery big time, and that's just recording my score and the occasional yardage, I'm not sure the battery would hold up if all the features where used.
