A nightclub is allowing its customers to bringing their own alcohol into the premises - an idea the owner says he has been forced into in order to stay open.
Durham Live club says it can no longer compete with the cheap supermarket booze, so for a small fee you can drink your off-sales on their premises.

    If you could, would you?

Brought in a naggin into a well known club in
Cork tonight, got a glass with ice and coke (for free) and just poured it straight in.It is the only way to go these days....sure beats paying rediculous amounts and q-ing for the drink itself!

    Maybe I should rephrase that.
If you were allowed to bring in your own booze, would you?
I have visions of a group of lads turning up with a trolly full! :pac:

Depending on how much the fee to being your own is, I think this could be a great idea.

But if they want to make much money they may need some more rules, such no outside alcohol after 12.

I hope this catches on. I can see the joe duffy brigade coming out in support of publicans to try and stamp it out if it does.

I normally do if I go out in Ireland. Kind of miss the old hip flask here though, I suppose I could just do it for nostalgia.

What I like about some of the clubs in Germany is that they have a system where you get a card when you enter the place and you usually have a minimum you have to spend (ie, drinking seven euro's worth minimum). You just get it ticked off and pay when you leave, so there's technically no entrance fee.

For me though, it's a very dangerous concept... :o
