Goggles suitable to use with glasses

    Hi,

Im looking to buy goggles but as I wear glasses it makes it more difficult to choose a set. Id be willing to get contacts but it would be handier to just wear glasses under the goggles. I know you can get inserts for some glasses and goggles but that just increase the cost by quite a bit. A one month supply of contact lenses would probably do me a year or more anyway.

Anyone recommend goggles that would be suitable to wear over glasses.

    Cheers.

Depending from the size of your glasses, some lads would use Bolle x800i (as they provide quite lot of space with good venting abilities).

Bolle does the sqare lense for X1000 as well, but it all depends from the size of the glasses again...

The BEST solution I found was when someone got the ESS Crossbow glasses (very, very good quality, considering the price better than some Oakleys), bring them down to the opticians and got balistic lenses cut to the size - then you just put them in the frame, sell the other lens and - thats it. You have your safety glasses than, in nice shape and form.

Of course, you should be able to get any shape done in balistic lense (not only ESS), but I dont know how much that might cost in total, either where it was done, but I dont see it being very expensive at all..;)

ESS Striker Turbofans worked ok for me for a good long while.

As Magic says though, getting inserts is the absolute game-changer. I got the ESS ICE with inserts from esseyepro.com -- they will do the script inserts for you, probably for less than the average robbing bastard Irish optician (one guy wanted 200 quid). They ship worldwide, too.

How did you find Striker with fan? Were they comfortable? Did you have problem with fogging up? How was the fan? Some of the chineese ones makes a lot of noise from fan (you know this annoying, constant bzzzzzzzz all the time)?

I found ICE models was quite good, but... for a people with large head :D
I got couple of models of ISS for lads here, and have to say the quality seem to be there, and prices are very affordable.

The strikers were grand, the noise was only noticeable within 10 feet or so, certainly not as loud as the nasty chinese stuff.

They still fogged, just not as much.

have the ess turbo strikers as well, great google for someone with glasses and well worth the money

fan has two settings, on the lowest setting it is not noticeable unless the person is almost on top of you and tbh it is easy enough to switch off if you really need to cut out the noise

yes still fog, but at some point everything will fog , the fan just means it is easy to clear in a short period of time

I wear glasses and use ess striker goggles with a custom set of fans.two small silent fans.only notice them if you put your ear beside them and they never fog

Custom fan...? how did you do that if you dont mind me asking...? Replace the original fan with something else I presume...

They were just normal striker goggles not the turbofan

I'll try dig a link up for the fans now

    glasses wearer too here.
few games with glasses under large googles but the fog up was unbearable.
for a 24hour game went with contacts for the daytime and normal shooting glasses, had to then take out the contacts that night in the forest, not funtimes.
back to glasses under goggles again for the nightgames.

got fed up so had a look around for something else that would suit.
got a pair of Bollé Tracker2 glasses with perscription inserts from Airsofteire
took the inserts to my opticians who threw in my perscription
as Ronald would say "I'm lovin it"

no fog, can see and no huge goggles pushing my normal glasses into my face.
    win win :D

I was looking at those. Did it cost a lot to get the prescription done. Contacts could be a nightmare if one moves around in your eye in the middle of the game, not good and then trying to get it sorted with muddy hands.

I was also looking at the bolle x800 and any reviews say they dont fog because of all the vents.

I looked at ess goggles but to get the prescription done is 99 dollars on their site. That would pay for nearly 3 months of contacts and a months worth of contacts would last for over a years worth of airsofting.

Ive tried a few full face masks and for the most part were very uncomfortable and make it impossible to use a sight. I used 2 paintballing before though and they did the job perfectly in terms of comfort and fogging.

unknown to me my opticians work directly with Bollé anyway, so they had all the stuff there and if i'd known I could have had a pair made from the factory for me.

to get my lenses fitted was the same charge as getting any normal lenses fitted to frames.
One thing to note is that the insert is designed to take polycarbonate lenses, to basically double up on the safety glasses side of things.

as long as your eyesight isn't well manky and they can cut your perscription into the inserts you should be fine.
the worse your eyesight the thicker the lense the more trouble they'll have trying to get them in and since the insert is delicate, try too hard they might snap it, which happened to the one I got but luckily they had spares and got it sorted for me :)

next time i'm just going to go in there and ask before buying anything, save myself some time

I've done a few conversions with goggles before. The last one's I did were a pair of Bollé x500s (I think). Put in two small (25x25mm) laptop fans and they work great. You can't even hear them running.

My eyesight is pretty bad. Even making the lenses thinner doesnt make much of a difference.

I`ve seen fans taken out from graphics card (of some sort), thrown into the X1000s, and they were very noisy (not hearable by, shall we say - The Enemy, but very annoying bzzzzz for yourself as the player).
Which fans did you use? The ones from the proccessor?

Crossbow`s has skeleton frame (lenses are free-float, attached only to the top ''bar'' if you know what I mean), hence even ticker lenses should go in without any problems.

I see from where you were coming with the price, but if you want to do it properly, I dont see any other way, thats worth the money. I`ve mentioned Crossbow model from ESS, because If you can work out the deal with optician of getting tinted lenses as well as c-thru ones, you`ll end up with nice yokes you can use outside of airsoft sites - I`m using Crossbow myself in the car, hiking, in the winter now (when sun goes out on the snow it can be cruel) so you`ll end up with really nice item, practically usable almost everywhere - not only on airsoft site... I always have my glasses in the car, and they are there for last 3 years. I have to say - every penny I`ve spend on it was worth it.

At the end of a day, its up to yourself, but in my humble opinion, its worth couple of quids to save. The half-decent solution may bite after time, and the last thing you want is to go to the 24h game, and spend half of the time working on glasses-related problem - which will guide to spend more money anyway, on top of money spend on half-solutions (if you know what I mean), and it will only work out more and more expensive.

At the end of a day, 99 dollar prescription would be around 70-75 euro - you are not very far at all from the price of x800i`s at all...
