    Howdy guys,

I am looking to spend around €6k on a motor, preferably an estate or a large hatchback.

I need the boot space for transporting buggies and 2 medium sized dogs with a bit of space for some shopping etc. I live in the city so don't do much mileage and a lot of trips will be short and through traffic so is a petrol engine my best bet?

I previously drove a shared company car from time to time - a Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI which I loved, but I also fancy the Volvo V50.

What would you knowledgeable folk recommend?

I would say definitely go petrol as many diesels even though they mightn't have dpf's will not like the short trips around town. This mightn't be big enough but it's still good value.

This could be another good option too,it is a step up in size and power than the Focus estate but a nicer car imo.

Good luck with finding the car you want!

I like that Accord although would a 2.4 engine be a bit more than I need? Don't get me wrong, I'm sure the power is great to have but I would have limited opportunities to use it!

For some reason, I am not a fan of the Focus. I drove a Focus rental before and hated it! It could have been a bit abused as a rental though. I know that they have a great reputation.

    Cheers for the suggestions!

There's always the option of the 2.0Vtec too

A Mazda 6 estate is also an option, short NCT but get the dealer to put it through again.

This is a bit left field but I kinda like it

I'm currently looking at the Volvo V50, which I believe is based on the Focus estate. From what I've seen, the boot isn't quite as big as you might expect. Two decent sized buggies might be a squeeze.

I'm nearly scared to recommend it because of the stupid in-joke that's still doing the rounds in this forum, but an Octavia estate is definitely one to consider.

The Accord would be a great option though, I'd say the boot space is probably half as big as a V50 again.

V50 boot is going to be way too small for your needs

if you can stretch the budget and I'd say there is a bit of bargaining with this one and suck it up on tax renewal day I'd look at one of these
