i have just moved into a new house where there was a disconnected sky dish in position.i have a sky(hd box),bought cable and ran it from the dish to the box in the hope of picking up some free to air channels, but all i have met is a "no signal is being received" message.
now,1.do you need a sky subsciption in the first place to receive any signal at all and 2.if it is just a co-ordinates issue(the previous tenant was hungarian and im almost sure had his own type of receiver to watch hungarian channels)can a sky card with full subscription from another box be used in it.
    thanks in advance.

I'd guess that the dish isnt aligned right to 28E. And if the guy who used to live there was picking up any hungarian channels im almost positive thats the problem.

It could also be a faulty LNB, try plugging the cable into a different connetor on the LNB.
