    ...the problem is many of them are British pensioners, small investors. This could be a PR disaster for the Government and BOI if it is prepared to protect the big bondholders and instead hit small bondholders.

    The last time BOI tried this in the Summer it backed down in the face of a concerted campaign that nearly ended up in court and gave the country and the bank quite bad publicity.

    All bondholders must be fair game considering the situation we are in. The thing here is though that it's not equal. We won't screw the big investors but we will screw the small ones some of whom undoubtedly rely on this income to get by.
