Just bought 2007 320ci - red/yellow oil light

I just drove away 2 hrs ago with the car, there was 20€ petrol in the tank and I filled it for another 80€. 2km down the road and red oil can light comes on, then a square unit with diagonal fluid going across it, then yellow oil can with jagged fluid beneath it. I immediately added half a can of oil from a topaz garage but the red light now remains constant.

*when I opened the oil lid there was a light smoke (sign of heat) coming from it

Should I stop driving immediately? Should I add the rest of the can of oil?

    Any feedback much appreciated.

Stop the car. It could just be a sensor, if so dont add oil, as too much is not good. Whether you bought it privately or not, call the seller and let them know. Get the car lifted by AA or similar to a garage.

I'd say stop, the yellow oil light indicates low oil, the red one indicates no oil or no oil pressure, seeing as the red one came on first it sounds like an oil pressure problem.
Have you checked the dip stick?.

Did you check the oil before you bought it? Any sign of trouble on the test drive?

Couldn't see a dipstick at all.... Although I am in the pissin rain here. Was fine on test drive. I'm now getting a faint smell of oil in the car but maybe I'm just paranoid and it's on my hands..,.

How much oil did you add? Don't add anymore and don't drive it anymore, and don't tell the garage you bought it from that you put any in either ;)

    +1

But be carefull with that one. They'll obviously inspect the engine and likely open the sump to see what comes out if the light suggests there's no oil. What will you say when brand new, lovely golden oil flows out from the sump. Like others have said though, dont drive the car at all.
