The ford seems better kitted but the reliability is in the skoda !

If you want cheap running and maintenance would i be right to say the skoda ?

The mondeo is a grand car and great comfort and the likes at the same time.

Me, Personally. I'd be more inclined to go with the skoda.

I don't think the rear legroom and boot size of the Superb can be beaten, not this side of a Mayback anyway. That would be my choice, as a passenger or a driver.

I do a heady amount of driving myself for business (I hate trains).
All I can add is buy something that is comfortable and reliable for you - the skoda superb is just that.
If your car is comfortable and reliable your life will be at least a little more stress free and you can focus on the tricky task of making money as a taxi driver

    I'd go with the superb

Ford for me. Have you ever seen inside a Superb. Its the dullest place on earth. Its like a dashboard from a mid 90s small ,dull, family hatch shoved inside an over stretched sausage. The punters dont need any more space than the Mondeo plus the Ford is every bit as reliable. Lifes too short mate, you'll want to kill yourself if you have to sit inside that Skoda for 5 years. Mind you does it really matter so long as its got Radio 1 and you can tune into Joe Duffy. :D

I'd fancy the old fashioned 1.9 if I was doing big miles.

Id go with the Superb, bit more reliable than the Mondeo.

    versus .....

Skodas aint bombproof, they're just cheap VWs or atleast they were anyway. Paddy loves his dayzul Veedubs but they aint all they're cracked up to be. Clutches, gearboxes, dodgy doorlocks, windows not working, flywheels. All well known problems of a Skoda.

PS- nevermind the fact that they look, drive and feel crap. Sorry to all Skoda drivers on here in advance.

Ye I have to say I'm falling for the mondeo alright. Really like the titanium sport 2.2 but vrt is a killer

I drive a Titanium X Mondeo regularly and the Superb interior is light years ahead in quality and usability. And from what I have seen with the Mondeo durability too. There are parts of the Mondeo looking tired after 60k km that really shouldnt be. Also that Ford Converse system is a PITA to use - logic went out the window with the menu structure and it takes too much fiddling to do the smallest of things.

In saying that I'd still chose the Mondeo. Purely for the engine and looks. 105 brake in a car that size is going to be painful if you have a few passengers and a boot full of crap. Skoda suffers from the usual VAG failures too and although the engines reliable enough I don't think VAG have all their problems ironed out just yet. You can get good ones yes but a bad one will break your heart.

Both these cars are from the UK. How hard will it be to see KPH rather than MPH when you are driving and trying to pick up a fare, or are otherwise engaged on the radio, talking to the customer etc?

Given that the Government are going to get some private company to install thousands of them everywhere, it could be very expensive if you don't know excatly what speed in KPH, you are doing.

What about all the pre 2005 cars on the roads?

The Skoda can be set up to show KPH on the MFD, I dont think the Converse system can do this but hardly a major issue to be fair.

On paper the Skoda might make a better taxi due to its space but I would have the Mondeo, better engine and looks better, remember there's still plenty of room in the back of one of those too! I do think the Skoda has the better interior though. The one in the Mondeo looked dated the day it was released with all that shiny plastic.

On balance go for the mondeo though!

    .

I had a Ford Escort years ago.

The KMS were written in tiny writing relative to the MPH and were impossible to see, especially at night.

Nobody bothered too much about the speed limit then. It was more of a guide than anything else.

Toyota yaris type of speedo would be prefect. Change at the press of a button

What are you on about, whose speedos are gonna be changed?

Where is the rocket science around kph/mph speedos?

30mph is roughly 50kph, 40mph is roughly 80kph, 60mph is roughly 100kph, etc. The speedo even has the kph equivilant written on the inside of UK imports. I've driven cars with both and never had an issue.

If you someone cannot figure that out at this stage then there is no hope.

    30mph is 48kph, 40mph is 64kph, 50mph is 80kph, 62mph is 100kph.

Yeah a typo on that one. :p As I said roughly, you get the idea. :)

The superb is a better car for the taxi game, the boot has great access and is large enough for luggage on those airport runs. Also do vehicles registered for PSV not get a flat rate for VRT or is that only limos?

Fords always had good heaters, very handy when you are waiting for the breakdown truck on a cold day, if the engine is still running.

Something tells me that the OP will not be basing his decision on the historic effectiveness of Ford heaters.
