High heels help!

Need advice and/or a plan to help me wear the mid-size heels chosen for my bridesmaids outfit in approx five weeks!
I've always been a jeans and boots gal, rarely wear high heels, though I did used to wear heeled Clarks ankle boots every day until I was pregnant last year and it's pretty much been flats the whole time since then. Got more Clarks boots recently but they're not very high...
For a big girlie night a few months ago I did put on the pair of M+S footglove heels I have but was taking them off every chance I got (was even walking barefoot on the street at 3am...) and for the following week I felt as if my second toe had shifted position, I could still feel it!!!
So basically I have the new shoes in my possession now but need some advice to prepare my feet for the big day - break them in obviously but should I alternate between flats and heels every day or try live in something the same height for the next while?? Is there anything a cobbler could do to make them more comfortable? Use Party Feet or not? When I tried them on I could walk in them ok (took a bit of conscious effort though...) but even after a few minutes wear I was still feeling it for about half an hour afterwards!
    Any advice gratefully received!

Where do they hurt your feet exactly?

Where do they hurt your feet exactly?

Balls of feet and second toe mostly

I know it's yucky, but I've always found the party feet crap because your feet get sweaty while you're dancing and slip on them (sexy eh!)

I buy these things in penneys, they're fantastic, they are in the tights section and there are two pairs for €1.50. I can't find a pic of them online but they are pads for the ball of your feet and they have a lace flip flop bit to hold them onto your feet. They have little non slip grips on the bottom so they don't slide in your shoe.

I would also wear your shoes a bit around the house, but if they start hurting take them off straight away as you will only make wearing them worse!

If I was breaking in a pair of heels before an event, I'd usually wear them around the house with a pair of fluffy socks (sexy!) to get used to them before going out barefoot or just wearing tights.
I'd also second whoopsadaisydoodles' recommendation of those Penneys pad things- I find they work well, especially on the ball of the foot. :)

Whenever I get a new pair of shoes I always do the hoovering in them before wearing them out! Put them on when you're just at home, doing nothing or doing the housework, it does help! And wear big socks inside them the first time as that stretches them out quicker!
