So we've had this pc for a bazillion years and I've decided to put windows 7 Pro on it as I have a couple serial keys spare.

Just wondering will Windows 7 auto find the drivers after the install? I'm just afraid of stuff not working due to driver issues? If I come across this problem, are they easy to obtain?

I've upgraded on my laptop from vista to 7 no problem, just had to download a couple drivers from the Acer website.

Or have I nothing to worry about? Just back everything up and install that shiz?
    These are her specs
    Thanks ;)

The specifications are all very general, so it's hard to say how well it will even run. Since you've done it before, why not upgrade and find out how well Windows finds the drivers? If you wanted to take extra precautions and you have a spare hard drive, you could clone your old windows so if the new install didn't work well, you could go back to your old setup. Alternatively you could swap in another drive and install on that.

I would usually install without the key and use the 30-day trial for a while to see how well it runs before activating. If you press Windows key + pause/break and click on the device manger, it will show up errors with drivers most of the time.

Great thanks for the reply! How to do the above?
    EDIT: I found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971760

Seems ok but all I have is the iso of new windows 7 on my external hard drive. Is that ok? Will I be able to restore the old xp version on the pc without its disk...etc?
    ;)

I don't thinks that windows.old keeps all of your files.
EaseUS is a good backup tool which allows you to various types of backups, including system state, files and cloning hard drives.

You'll need to burn the ISO to DVD or use a USB installation tool. It might be no harm to check the integrity of the ISO by matching up with the official hashes.

Here's a hash checker program, but there's others out there too.
