MTB Fork suspension Q

I was belting down some fire road last night on my mountain bike and all of a sudden I hit a section where a track machine/forestry cutting machine had driven and left its imprint, all of a sudden I felt like i was hanging on to an out of control kango hammer.. it acted like a brake, completely slowing me off... I figured it was down to the rebound in my shock working overtime so it switched it from hare to tortoise on the adjustment knob to see if it would make any difference, none really worth talking about... Anyone know if this is just due to my shock being of a lower grade (RS recon silver, coil spring) or does this happen to all shocks?

Sounds like it was more down to the tracks on the ground and your bike handling ability! :)
