Shower/Changing Facilities at Dublin Airport

Does anyone know if there are showers/changing facilities at Dublin Airport?

I have regular one-day trips coming up. If I cycle there I reckon I won't need to leave as early as I would if driving. However, I will need to clean up and change at the airport.

    Any advice?

None in the airport itself. ALSAA swimming pool is on site though, you could try joining that for a month.

Wow .... hard to believe that with all the money spent on T2 that there isn't a public shower facility!

Dress appropriately for the ride, don't kill yourself and get too sweaty. Few baby wipes or a wash in a sink when you get in there and a clean change of clothes and you'll be grand. I've been commuting to school, college and or work by bike at least 5 days a week for 4 years now and on again off again for longer and I've never had access to a shower. You just have to be prepared and take it easy on the way in.

    Thanks All,

I think I'll try it with a handbasin wash-up at the airport.

Are there any airports with showers? T1 in Dublin has but only for staff and not the public.

Absolutely - I've used them in a number of airports during stop overs on long-haul flights!

I think showers are more usual in transfer airports than source/destination airports like Dublin. LHR only has showers in T5 I think which is a pity :-/

    Copenhagen and Schiphol too.

Most proper international airports have "transit hotels" or facilities like showers in executive lounges.

There is one shower in the wheelchair accessible toilet on the check in level (ground floor) open to the public. When you enter the check in go left until the very end and you will see the single wheelchair acc. toilet close to where AA, Eithad etc have check in desks.

    Really not cool.

Surely that shower is for wheelchair users only.

They're unlikey to have cycled in though.

If it's the only shower there, I wouldn't have a problem with using it.

Baby wipes though are great, I've used them a few times, while not as nice as a proper shower they actually do a great job. Also if you are worried about smelling use a decent deordorant, something like mitchum.

    It might be good design...
Stick the only shower in the universal access toilets so that EVERYONE can use it?

If it was causing a problem then you'd have a point. But if not then is it not a better use of resources to share facilities.

I use wheel chair loo to change, simply because it usually has a basin to wash in, and its much bigger so you've room to change, bring in a bag. Unless it was causing a problem for someone why not? Never anyone waiting for it.

Unless it turns into that IT Crowd episode.

You'd think so, but when DISABLED PEOPLE are involved ALL REASON GOES OUT THE WINDOW.

For instance, I once pulled in to a disabled space at a shopping centre whilst my wife ran into a shop to pick something up. The space was one of about 10 in a row, all empty. I was sitting there, engine running, reflexes tuned so that I could vacate the spot the moment when the inevitable convoy of 10 disabled people would arrive.

One would think that this approach would be sufficiently thoughtful, but no. Mr Taking Disproportionate Offense On Other People's Behalf strides up and calls me a selfish, lazy inconsiderate c**t for "parking in the disabled space". My protestations about the ambient vacancies were met with "WELL, WHAT IF EVERYONE PARKED THERE? WELL? DO YOU THINK YOU'RE BETTER THAN US?".

To which the answer, of course, is "yes".

    ???

This shower is for everyone including wheelchair users. Really don't understand this attitude. Of course if someone wants to pee instead of shower they should skip the queue but that's the case anywhere there's only one universal toilet... like my house for instance.
Some time in the ideal future all facilities will be for all people so we don't have this type of segregation.

I think it was Gatwick I was in recently and that had a shower.

Isn't it discrimination to not allow disabled people to use said facility?

It's an airport not a hotel

It's not there for scruffy cyclists

There's a hotel down the road. Get a room ?!?

He doesn't want a room in the hotel, he wants a plane.

I'd probably end up sweating by the time I've walked up the road too, so for me, I'd use the universal shower.

According to Customer Relations at Dublin Airport "The showing facilities are only for use for People with reduced mobility."

Is that airport policy or just something a random member of staff said?

Blatant discrimination against fully abled mobility embodied individuals by not "allowing" them to shower there. Why should persons of reduced mobility be permitted to de-smellify themselves and others not?

I feel a call to Joe duffy coming on...

Are they saying the person sitting next to me has to bare my stick because I can cycle?

    A bit harsh.

But as far as I know your not allowed cycle inside the airport building which would greatly reduce his mobility.

As does dublin. Why would the DAA offer something for free where like 90% of other airports they can charge for

People who use wheelchairs often have continence issues. Waiting for a toilet because some entitled twat is using it may mean they could soil or wet themselves. A person with a disability who uses continence wear and needs it changed by a carer may have to wait it out or walk further to find a suitable toilet because you have decided that your desire to have a shower is greater than their need to be changed. Don't be so selfish.
