ALDI had a mealworm feeder a few weeks ago and there are still plenty of them left in the branches for 8.99. The feeder has an adjustable clear dome that prevents access by bigger birds. Did anyone buy one? Are they any good?

My experience of mealworms is that they are more popular (with starlings, robins, blackbirds the main consumers) if scattered on the ground than if left on a birdtable or in a hanging feeder.

    Here is the feeder

Its not fully clear in the picture, but would this be a suitable feeder for just leaving nuts/seeds etc on? Or is the bottom bit made of a mesh that stuff like that would fall through?

It is a mesh, but will hold most seeds save for very fine nyjer/niger. It is designed to let water drain out.
