    Hope someone can answer.

I am on one parent family payment and have been offered 3/4 days childminding.

Sorry if this is a silly question, but how do I declare this to the SW if the parents are paying me cash? I know I am allowed to earn €145 a week but will have no payslips. Do I just tell the SW I recieve this cash. The amount would vary as the parents work days vary, it could be anywhere between €60-€100 a week or nothing if during school holidays as the family will be going on familys holidays during these times.
Just want to make sure everything will be above board before I take on their child.

    Thanks in Advance

Income from childminding is usually classed as self employment. Therefore the 146.50 disregard that normally applies DOES NOT APPLY to childminding. Every euro that you earn from self employment will be deducted from your payment! You can only avail of the disregard if you can get the person whose kids you mind to treat you as an employee, ie pay PAYE/PRSI etc. (which is unlikely!)

As for proving how much you earn, you should keep records for inspection, a log of what money you get each week, and who it came from.

If you are earning less than 15,000 per year then you can get an exemption from having to register as a self employed person, although you do have to sign a declaration to the Revenue. I think you also have to register with HSE as a childminder to avail of the exemption, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

For information on the sector see here http://www.childminding.ie/childminding.htm
