Not sure, but if you a friend over their why not just send/wire them the money and let them buy it for you?

Or order online with their delivery address?

Yeah, that might be an option as well.

According to www.apple.com it is possible to buy online and pick up in store. However, I don't know if they will accept my Irish Credit Card online nor do I know how long they will hold a product in the shop, it will probably be three weeks before I can get it picked up.

If anyone has info on whether I can buy online with Irish CC and pick up in store in a few weeks it would be much appreciated!

As far as I know the collect in store option is new, and is just a tick box at online check out i.e. you opt to send it to the store instead of the home address. This thread might help:

Scroll down to reply No. 10 - from me. If you choose the Collect in Store option, bear in mind that the Apple Store might look for ID and/or the Credit Card to be presented to them to verify that they're handing over the order to the correct customer.
