There's a new race on in Cork City next Sat morning, on what's going to be a new park opening next year sometime, formerly the old city dump. I'm going along to take a look at it in advance more than anything else as might be a nice place to run once it's opened.

    Details are here - http://corkrunning.blogspot.com/2011/11/race-noticetramore-valley-5k-sat-26th.html

It looks good alright, can't make it myself unfortunatley due to other commitments but know a few people heading to it, nice touch to have the first run for charity. A 2.5km loop sound ideal, I wonder if it is lit at night, must have a look next time i'm on the flyover.

Park not opening for a few months so won't be able to what if any lighting will be there. Hope to make it on Saturday so will be on the lookout for evidence of any lighting.

I was over for the schools xc last week. I liked it but there was still a definite whiff of "dump" and it was quite boggy in areas (not necessarily a bad thing)

No sign of lights there I'm afraid. A pretty good location for a race, the course is gently undulating with a small climb towards the start/finish area. Looking forward to see it open properly next year.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a pedestrian entrance to the park from the south douglas road once it opens properly?

Well folks what did you make of the run?

What do you think of the park (Tramore Valley i.e. the former dump)?

There is lot of potential for the site to be formed as part of a superpark linking with Grange/Frankfield area where the beleagured Vermon Mount House is located.

I would be really interested to hear your views in this. I am doing a dissertation on a feasibility study on the superpark as part of my town planning masters course in UCC. Thanks.
